Status: offline 		I own and have used a taser on more than one occasion. It is a viable option to keep not only the user but the perp safe. I have never run across anyone who has had any ill efeects from it. Nor has anyone that I have personally talked to. Yes there have a been a COUPLE of deaths but the medical exams showed that those people most likely would have died anyway from an overdose. Pepperspray while effective is not always effective...I am a good case about that it does not have anywhere near the effect on me that it does to most people....but I have never had the taser not take anyone to the ground. For officer safety and perp safety the taser is one of the best tools put out in the field in a long time. Dont let the media twist what really goes on out there. The dash cam and cell phone cams are exploding the reality show market. It may seem that there are alot of incidents but it is not the case. The media just likes to show the taser use for ( excuse the pun) shock value. The taser has saved countless lives and has eased the burden on officers.

Status: offline 		If I was to own a weapon for home safety it would be a gun and not a taser. Problem arises when you have more than attacker and you've got your prongs stuck in one guy and can't taze the second. I know they are a very helpful tool to LE but I think LE sometimes use them when they don't have to.

Status: offline 		see thats where i think your letting the media effect your opinion. there are times when you have to make a split second descision sometimes its the right sometimes not i admit. but since the taser has been proven safe it is used in situations where a person is being non compliant....its field proven to be useful in those situations. as for home defense no i would not say a taser is best...though the cartridge changeout is just as fast as a magazine change.

are you sure? because i am pretty sure i have read that he was tasered, maybe just recieved two jolts with the prongs stuck in him....but, he was tasered...but he was on pcp...and i'll agree that perhaps excessive force was used on him...but have you ever personally taken down someone resisting arrest that was on PCP?

Status: offline 		Tasering is an effective method to control a person that needs to be controlled for a variety of reasons.  While it certainly is painful, it leaves no lasting effects, in most cases.  There are rare cases reported of people having died after being tased, but those deaths were attributed to another factor.

In answer to your question yes I have had to personally take down a person on pcp....not the best night of my life lol. as for the taser it was not out at the time or at least not in the form it is now....i believe he may have been hit with a stun gun which is different....but i know the pepper spray and batons were used.

Status: offline 		The original TASER device (the TF-76) was launched in the mid 1970s by a NASA scientist named Jack Cover, the TASER device inventor. The TASER TF-76 fired two darts up to a distance of 15 feet. These darts remained attached to the hand-held device by small, thin, insulated wires.

Rodney King incident happened on March 3, 1991.

Now, Tasers were not more widely used in the law enforcement feild until the mid 1990's but they existed long before then....

Status: offline 		oh yea i knew they existed but where not widely used by law enforcement because of the cost of the devises and the lack of knowledge about what they were capable of. the new devises are much more cost effective and easier to use.....i think you would still be surprised though just how many departments....do not use them.....like i said i cant be sure about the king incident but i do not believe that la was using them at the time i may be wrong about that....and even if they did like i said before being as he was on pcp...it still would not have made all that much difference.

Status: offline 		I had heart problems in under 20 minutes of being tazered.  10 guys with tazer rifles, 3/6 hit and stuck (chest, stomach, arm).

The zaps didn't seem to effect me (a malfunction from one rifle)initially so I was given extra juice from another. It felt like a numb paralysis. But akin to being in labour, it is forgotten immediatly after.

I agree that cops are getting way out of hand with these things and misusing their budget for the weapons most of the time.  It seems they use them as a means to 'awe' at the spectacle of it all and to play target practice in some sadistic way. 

I watch these stories closely now.

Schools? lordy, I never heard of such thing.  I believe you though. This world nuttier every day.

btw, did you read latest research on autism as far as treatment goes?  Diet (removing wheat from the diet) and some colorings/preservatives reduces *some or all symptoms in many.  It is also highly probable that it is caused by the MMR shots as infants.  Wish you and your son well (and safe).

Status: offline 		Interesting point. Law enforcement/general public doesnt always recognize that a portion of the population ISS "slower"- these folks are often viewed as drunk, drugs, etc.

A good portion of the population...

Not a whole lot of attention to chronic pain sufferers; and an aging society- as the song goes "what a drag it is getting old"

Status: offline 		I think tazing, even for non-disabled adults should be limited to one shock. Anyone, including police officers who repeatedly shock someone who is already on the ground should face felony prosecution. They should serve just as many years in prison as non-consentual criminal sadists. I saw a video of a woman being repeatedly tazed by a male police officer as she lay on the ground screaming in agony. The only punishment the officer received was a temporary paid suspension.

Status: offline 		I saw that vid.  She hit her head on the police car too?

Excess force, especially with many witnesses was a good bargaining tool in court for me. The judgement went well, no police showed up for court date but the judge scolded the Queen's counsel to notify the city swat squad of their actions. I have no scars, but the anguish and blatant wrongful actions of force cost the city quite a few bucks. 

She should sue too, but I think they are claiming she was drunk? on drugs? Yet, after the initial taze, she may have just been disoriented.
