So, which Python (Monty) are you most like?

Limited to those given credit as "Conceived, Written and Performed by" This is not to invalidate the contributions of Mss. Cleveland, Booth or others, but simply to limit the scope to the "creative talent" as opposed to the "performing talent." And yes, I'd put this in "Humor," if it would accept polls...

WHAT is your favourite colour..?!

SuspendedInGaffa -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/24/2007 3:14:02 PM)

I'd probably be Palin (Nice Python) with hopefully a touch of Chapman's absurdity. Hopefully no Idle in the mix at all. Can't stand the bloke.

e01n -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/24/2007 7:25:53 PM)

I don't know... I think that he had about the right mix in the writing as broadcast. Idle was often excluded because he'd write on his own rather than in a group with the others. So his material just didn't have as much support.

What DID make it in, however, was utterly brilliant.

IMNSHO, that is.

By way of example:
(scene: 2 men in a pub)
Norman: Is your wife a...goer...eh? Know what I mean? Know what I mean? Nudge nudge. Nudge nudge. Know what I mean? Say no more...know what I mean?
Him: I beg your pardon?
Norman: Your wife...does she, er, does she 'go' - eh? eh? eh? Know what I mean, know what I mean? Nudge nudge. Say no more.
Him: Well, she sometimes goes, yes.
Norman: I bet she does. I bet she does. I bet she does. Know what I mean? Nudge nudge.
Him: I'm sorry, I don't quite follow you.
Norman: Follow me. Follow me. I like that. That's good. A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat, eh? (elbow gesture; rubs it)
Him: Are you trying to sell something?
Norman: Selling, selling. Very good. Very good. (hand tilting quickly) Oh, wicked. Wicked. You're wicked. Eh? Know what I mean. Know what I mean? Nudge nudge. Know what I mean? Nudge nudge. Nudge nudge. (leaning over to him, making eye gesture; speaks slowly) Say...no...more. (leans back as if having imparted a great secret)
Him: But...
Norman: (stops him with finger which he lays alongside nose; gives slight tap) Your wife is she, eh... is she a sport. Eh?
Him: She likes sport, yes!
Norman: I bet she does, I bet she does!
Him: She is very fond of cricket, as a matter of fact.
Norman: (leans across, looking away) Who isn't, eh? Know what I mean. Likes games, likes games. Knew she would. Knew she would. Knew she would. Likes games, eh? She's been around, eh? Been around?
Him: She's traveled. She's from Purley.
Norman: Oh...oh. Say no more, say no more. Say no more - Purley, say no more. Purley, eh? Know what I mean, know what I mean. Say no more.
Him: (about to speak; can't think of anything to say)
Norman: (leers, grinning) Your wife interested in er... (waggles head, leans across) photographs, eh? Know what I mean? Photographs, 'he asked him knowingly'.
Him: Photography?
Norman: Yes. Nudge nudge. Snap snap. Grin grin, wink wink, say no more?
Him: Holiday snaps?
Norman: Could be, could be taken on holiday. Could be yes - swimming costumes. Know what I mean. Candid photography. Know what I mean, nudge nudge.
Him: No, no we don't have a camera.
Norman: Oh. Still (slaps hands lightly twice) Woah! Eh? Wo-oah! Eh?
Him: Look, are you insinuating something?
Norman: Oh...no...no... Yes.
Him: Well?
Norman: Well. I mean. Er, I mean. You're a man of the world, aren't you...I mean, er, you've er... you've been there haven't you...I mean you've been around...eh?
Him: What do you mean?
Norman: Well I mean like you've er...you've done it...I mean like, you know...you've...er...you've slept...with a lady.
Him: Yes.
Norman: What's it like?

ocilla -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/24/2007 8:07:49 PM)

Gosh eoin - this is a hard one to decide.  I totally relate to Terry Gilliam in terms of Brazil in particular.  But I would bery much like to be similar to Michael Palin - he is just so darn likable.  And Eric Idle - the Meaning of Life..., I can say for certain I am not like Cleese.  Gona have to think some more about the others though.

corsetgirl -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/24/2007 8:31:33 PM)

I used to remember Eric Idle hosting Saturday Night Live singing the Beatles song "Here Comes the Sun".  Really classic comedy!

SuspendedInGaffa -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/24/2007 11:17:01 PM)

Don't get me wrong, e01n, I'm not denying Idle's contribution to Python, his songs in particular. I just find him supremely irritating as a person.

e01n -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 6:25:23 AM)

Oh, totally agreed, there Gaffa... wink wink nude nudge...

ChicagoSwitchMal -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 6:28:38 AM)

And I thought this thread was about snakes. My bad.

e01n -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 12:38:10 PM)

That happens on occasion...

Oddly, I know who polled as Terry Jones... and I'm shocked by the lack of votes for Graham, Palin and Gilliam. Truly stunning.

softness -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 1:47:44 PM)

cleese

angry ... elitist .. classically educated

SuspendedInGaffa -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 2:15:13 PM)

Yeah, no votes for Gilliam is weird. C'mon you Yanks, let's see a bit of patriotism!

e01n -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 2:18:40 PM)

Jones & Palin went to Oxford... The others Cambridge. Connie Booth is from Indianapolis, IN. Terry Gilliam is from a suburb of St Paul MN.[;)]

As to angry and elitist, I'd say Jones has the edge a bit... especially being the "short guy"

ocilla -> RE: Which Python are you? (9/25/2007 10:07:09 PM)

alright I went with Gilliam
