DarkDaddyZ -> Since It's Leather Week... (9/24/2007 6:35:29 PM)

MDA posted about the BDSM emblem which really caught on in the 90s early Y2Ks (wait, I guess it's still the early Y2Ks)  any-ho one of the things I get all choked up in San Francisco during Leather Week is driving down SoMA district (South Of Market area) especially on Folsom Street is seeing the Folsom Street Fair banners on all on the lamp-posts and of course the (Huge) Leather Pride flag that flies in the wind all over Castro Street District after the Mayor declares this week "Leather Pride Week".

So, when you see the Leather Pride flag or people with the leather pride flag was the first thing it brings to your mind?  How do you feel about it?  Of course this thread may have been approached before.  I met Tony DeBlase before he moved on to the next world at a keynote and he was very passionate about what the Leather Pride flag represented to him:  "What it represents to YOU"  Just like the community is supposed to be.

When I see it, I see it empowering, a symbol of community and a chance for me to interpret a universal flag into what BDSM is to me.

Now I'd love to hear what you all think, I mean after you watch Chuck, Heroes and Journeyman, of course!

Dark Blessings,
Z-

To me it's another flag. Like any of the other things we use to represent ourselves and to recognize each other - like a secret handshake.

I'm pretty indifferent to someone I never met giving me a "flag" to show who I am. I guess I don't care.

Thanks for responding, teamnoir.  Your take is interesting, it's supposed to be individualized so I respect that, but let me ask you.  Do you ever get choked up when you see the American Flag, perhaps especially after September 11, 2001? (I'm assuming you are American, if not I apologize and would ask you to substitute the US Flag for the flag of where you are from).
