I have recently been chatting with a couple of different submissives with an aim toward meeting. One thing that I am noticing though is a tendency to compare what toys I have maybe with the toys of another Mistress the sub may be talking to. I am fairly newly divorced, and because of the situation I was in ended up starting out again in life (I had 6 bags with me when I flew cross-country to start my life over again). I am finding that buying all the shiny new toys that might impress someone is a very low priority for me. I am very creative with what I have on hand and what is available to me thru the hardware stores, etc. I thought this was a common practice, but it doesn't sound to me as if it is from speaking with submissive males. So, I just want to know...are you the creative type that doesn't have a huge dedicated toy bag, or do you have the shiny new toys that make the subs drool?

I have quite a few "store bought" toys, but after a recent trip to the local Home Depot with some Domme friends, I wondered why I spent so much money on toys. Embrace your creativity. You don't need shiny new toys to impress subs. If he has a decent mind, that's one of the best toys available. [;)] If a sub is telling you that you need new toys, he most likely hasn't experienced the real sensations that a serious Domme can produce with her wicked mind and hands alone. Be well, Julie

I think all of our "toys" would fit in one overnight bag... I/we prefer the perfertables too... Home Depot, Lowes, Pet Smart... and my personal favorites... Big Lots and yard sales. I have almost a duffel bag, but it's only because I got all excited about shopping for things I might want to use; some of the stuff hasn't been used, and I feel that the more one knows, and the more creative one is, the less toys one needs/can play with... So I haven't been buying in a little while; plus it does become a lot of money to have sitting in drawers and closets without a subject to wear them out on. M

I have a deeply alarming number of toys. But then, I've been collecting for ten years, too! I have done whole scenes with just my hands. Or my hands and some duct tape. Hit the dollar store and Home Depot, and for less than fifty dollars, you can set yourself up brilliantly.

I have kept my fairly extensive collection, floggers, canes, manacles, cuffs, blah blah blah.. but my very favorite toys were two 25 feet of good rope, some safety candles, some clothes pins and a good blade.. all bought at a local hardware store for under 50.00

I have a very small collection of toys. My sub has helped by purchaseing some she wanted to try. That is an opition. If your sub wants to play with a certain toy..make him/her buy it! That is also, to me at least, an act of submission. Call it a give of love for his/her One.

G'evening all: A favorite topic... Toys! [:)] I'm quite enamoured of my collection. I have some of the loveliest you'll ever see. My flogger collection alone, while not overly numerous, has more variety than 10 people combined. chuckles sinfully I happen to enjoy experimenting with different materials. Living in a studio apartment limits my zeal down to a large suitcase, a large architect tube for canes/straights, & a wand case. My own creativity though is my best asset. I can cruise through any major home improvement chain, 99 cent store, retail franchise, what have you, and emerge with enough inexpensive pervertables to make folks drool. It's truly amazing what the mind can achieve when motivated. Then again.... I've reduced grown adults to quivering piles of pulp just with my nails. [;)] If someone thinks you "need" expensive toys, they're daft. They've probably been watching too many cheap BDSM movies and don't have enough real time experience. Food for thought - one of my favorite toys? A 2' ostrich plume I bought for $6 in a millinery shop. Sounds pricey for just 1 feather, but the sensations it has produced have made the modest investment pay for itself 100X over. Stay safe, play nice, & share your toys w/ others.... [:D] Bella

I'll be the first to admit that I have an indecent quantity of toys. Far more than I need, certainly far too many to use in one week, let alone in one scene....I do love them all. Some have been gifts, but most I have bought myself because they appealed to me on some level. I'll note: I've been in the lifestyle for a lot of years - I didn't just go out one day and buy one of everything in sight (although there have been some pretty serious shopping trips at large events LOL). That said - you don't need a lot of expensive toys to have a great scene. You seem well versed on "pervertables" so I won't offer any suggestions there. I personally like using a combination of pervertables AND good quality professionally made toys. Plus there's the amusement factor of giving someone a solid flogging with a variety of lovely floggers, then finishing the sub off with a whip made of yard long licorice (Target carries these). If you WERE interested in getting some professionally made toys to complement your pervertables, I would recommend the following as a good "basic" collection: a thumpy flogger (elk, moose, suede) a stingy flogger (braided, latigo, rubber) a comfortable set of wrist and ankle cuffs a leather paddle a good quality riding crop with a wide flapper and just because they are a favorite...eventually you might want to invest in a good single tail Everything else is just bells and whistles. Regarding subs who are shopping around for a Domme with a big toy bag....yep, seen that fairly often. I tend to rank that up there with subs who shop around looking for Dommes who will perform <insert specific kink act here> above and beyond looking at the person as a whole. It happens. It's also one of the reasons I usually only respond if asked what toys I have, that I have just a few basics. (48 floggers alone is just a few, right?) When I know they are interested in Sonnet the woman not just Sonnet the spanker or Sonnet the toywhore that I'll open up and share that.

my slave and i both had large collections before we met one another. now we drag around about 6 large suitcases full, plus 2 bags for shoes, a duffle bag/hiking pack we use for play parties because its easy to carry for my slave, plus my doctor's leather bag with my medical supplies, my violet wand (because its in its own case), and many many many more bags of sex toys, clothing, and other supplies. we could open up our own store with how much stuff we have!!

We have a relatively large collection, considering that we started this when we were poor college students, and we are still pretty poor college graduates (student loans suck). We have the mandatory rope and chain, padlocks, etc. We also have a growing collection of homemade floggers (the versitility of ribbon is amazing), some home made cuffs (that really need replaced - some days we play a bit too rough), a couple of paddles (a pingpong paddle, and one that I made from a key rack LOL) and a very few "real" toys - a couple of small vibrators, some waterproof cuffs with suction cups for playing in the shower, a strapon that we discovered too late I can't use because it contains latex (grumbles about stupid manufacturers who don't lable what their stuff is made of), and I think that's it for what we bought pre-made.

I'm the creative type that likes (and has) shiny new toys (as well as some pretty interesting home made and hand made things); although the truth is that I swore an oath to not purchase any more toys until I own an autoclave and buying an autoclave has been low on my list of priorities. I started with a small bag of handmade stuff. Over the years I've gone from that to a 2000 sq.ft. well stocked dungeon to paring down to a dungeon that, for the most part, fits into a nice sized room. I had to give a bit of equipment away to make that happen and my cage is still in my living room, but it's significantly smaller now than it was 4 or 5 years ago. This weekend I am packing it up in preparation to move again so my attitude is "why in the WORLD do I have all this stuff?!?" but I'm sure that will pass once I get settled into a new place.

On MANY occasions I have simply tucked a single tail into my purse and off I went. But then....I LOOOOVE my singles and I HATE to drag bags around (whether the sub is doing the dragging or not). Why drag it all out when the dungeon at home is well equiped and I know where everything is? Besides, I hate to be looked at as a life support system for a whip so it suits me when people think my collection is modest. It works to separate the wheat from the chaffe a bit.

My collection is sizeable enough. In a recent home remodel I had to pack it all in one area, and it's a tight fit in a giant travel golf bag and a few suitcases. I do not like the pretention of dragging it all with me, though. I like to use a smaller bag collection when I do decide to go out. I have a hard time leaving any floggers behind, so I rarely do, but a few canes, and then simple restraints will do the job when I'm playing away from home. As for the investment issue, I like to find one central piece of a particular scene and have it handcrafted high quality. I then accessorize around it with perversely devised formerly vanilla parts and pieces. For instance, a conservative arm binder or leather body harness is accessorized with less expensive chain, or even rope. Being as I get my own needs served better through the D/s aspect than my sadism, I've found that if they are strictly toy-oriented, we're probably not a match anyway. But, I do have "friends" that I play with without the D/s and have fun that way, too. The discussions and comments about toys usually tell me a lot about them. "Show-n-Tell" is a strong part of the learning-about-each-other process. Purr
