A collar (being collared as a slave/collaring someone) or a wedding ring (vowing to be a husband or wife)?

The reason I ask is because I've seen quite a few differing views...from people who truly believe that a collar is more meaningful than a wedding could ever be, to those who wouldn't marry someone they weren't already collared to.

Just something I'm curious about, feel free to add any thoughts :)

I think it's a symbol that carries a meaning.. the particular of what form that symbol happens to take is arbitrary.

PS-  Since this may sound like it just applies to the physical ring versus the physical collar, I'd apply it to the cerimonies, too.  Marriage, collaring.. they're both just symbols.

A collar.  I have no interest in marrying again, it's something that does not make sense for me at this point in my life.  But I think a D/s commitment would be a great thing to have.

For me, definitely the collar.  It is probably the novelty (but i am not sure), because i've had a wedding ring...i've never been collared.

As i stated above, for me the collar might signify that one unattainable fantasy, so it is, therefore, more important.  Probably not the norm, but there ya have it.

For me, the ring. To me the collar means that he wants me but the ring means he wants me to join his family and that he wants to join mine. That means a lot more to me. Both are important, to be quite sure, but the joining of families just means a lot more.

My Master asked me this very question several months ago, and I said, "Definitely the collar."

I now proudly wear his sterling silver collar, but will probably don a traditional engagement ring soon, as we plan to marry next spring. I'm very happy, by the way, that we've decided I will wear my Mother's engagement and wedding bands. She died when I was fourteen, and I've had her rings ever since, but did not choose to wear them in my first marriage, for various reasons.

Now, I feel my life is coming full circle...I'm finally receiving the kind of unconditional love my mother gave me from my Master, so we both find it very fitting that he will marry me with the ring that used to grace the finger of the one other person in my life who loved me this fully and truly.

Neither the collar nor the ring mean much of anything to me; they are nothing more than pieces of metal.

What matters is the committment that goes into a relationship.

I recently married my owner after being in his collar for almost 8 years. They are both equally important as they speak to how we understand each other and fit together. It was the perfect culimnation of one period in our life together and the beginning of another that so far is even better.

Neither means much to me in terms of a relationship specific. I think commitment which is what both of these things are meant to symbolize but the truth is very few stay in these commitments if the relationship goes bad. While it may be cool to say when you are happy or in deep love that you would stay an honor it, the fact is many of us have been through or seen relationships go bad and few if any of us go tough luck stay in them. Commitment is only as strong as the people and their relationship and if I do not have faith my partner is not fully committed no symbol will trick me. Symbol means little.

Give me the wedding ring if I had to choose. It offers society benefits and social acceptance that you cannot get with a collar. Plus if I were to have a UM I do not want to force my beliefs that might cause them problems before they should have to deal.

For me the wedding ring tends to speak to other people and what we mean to one another and the collar speaks to a select few, but more to us.  Don't know where I get that, but that's how I feel.  I would pick the collar, he not only commits himself to me, but commits himself to obedience.  I've had both and by far the collaring meant far more.

I said the collar because at this point i never want to married again. But for me a collar is just an outward symbol of what is in my heart. Take away the collar and I am still owned. It the heart that bonds me to Master not  the collar.  In fact I am collared/owned  but I dont have a collar. Master marked me with his tattoo and I have an eternity bracelet that hasnt came off since the day he put it on.

i'll  not ever be married to Sir because of prior commitments on both our parts.  and quite frankly,  although i do wear rings, i dont wear what most people would call a traditional wedding ring, nor does it mean so much to me that i wear a specific ring for my relationship with my husband.  then again, he doesnt wear a wedding ring either, so *shrugs*

the collar and bracelet Sir gave me mean a lot to me.  a LOT.  but the emotion behind them mean even more.

I want the whole nine yards - a collar and a ring with the right dom!  I just feel that both bring a level of commitment to the dom and sub.  Call me a little old fashioned.
