Is it just my Master and Mistress that require me to ask permission to speak both inside and outside the house (in public it is a must)???

kyraofMists -> RE: Speaking (9/26/2007 5:23:06 PM)

Alandra and I are required to ask permission to ask a question, give information or express an opinion.  We also have hand signals that convey these requests and are required to use them if at all possible.

If we are in the middle of a conversation, we do not need to continually ask for permission.

Not for me i only have to ask permission to use the restroom.  As long as i am polite and respectful i am allowed to speak when i feel a need to.  No restrictions on speech here my Master likes me to speak my mind.  It can lead to stimulating conversations.

No, but it must be difficult in family gatherings or answering the phone or in noisy places.

God, if i had speech restrictions i would be in trouble........lol

AEslaveM -> RE: Speaking (9/26/2007 5:55:47 PM)

What mmb1 said goes for me, too!  :)

KnottyGirl69 -> RE: Speaking (9/26/2007 5:58:58 PM)

If I speak out od turn, Master gives me a "Look"....that is all I need to know to shut-up...otherwise, He loves to hear what I ahve to say and often asks my opinion.

For us, the protocol applies only when he is involved in the conversation and the protocol is appropriate for the other people in the room.

Generally, at family gatherings we are given permission to speak freely and that protocol is inappropriate in that moment.  When we answer the phone we are expected to communicate appropriately for that type of interaction.  When we are in a noisy place, the hand signals work wonders.  When the five of us went to dinner the place was a little noisy and Alandra and I both used hand signals to communicate with him and get his permission to speak.

Having speech restrictions or Speech Protocals doesn't equate to a person not speaking their mind.

In fact... Speech Protocals can foster improved communication.

Not Yelling.....
Speak clearly.
Do not mumble or speak rapidly in conversation.
Look at a person as you speak so they can hear you better.
Wait till they are finished speaking before you begin to speak....

All these are speech protocals/restrictions that most people follow to have effective communication with another.

sometime speech restrictions can be used to hinder communication... but that doesn't have to occur.

speaking one's mind well... one can have absolutely no speech restrictions and still you wouldn't know what is on their mind.  Since they wouldn't tell you if their mouth was full of shit or not.

In enjoy my girls.. anyone for that matter.... speaking their mind.... but... I would much prefer that they speak in a manner that foster's effective communication than to just speak to hear themselves talk.

Littlepita -> RE: Speaking (9/26/2007 6:25:46 PM)

I don't ask for permission to speak, although I have done it because I like to follow basic courtesy. Well, unless I get overly excited and then he gives me that hand gesture that says, "Settle down Pita!" [&:]

While it probably isn't just you, mine certainly doesn't. I'm required to speak my mind, be a smartass, see if I can top him or score a point and be his own personal clown. I do get in trouble if I pull the whole "told you so" routine though.

Edited to add: Sometimes when we are fussing (no relationship is perfect!), I will ask for permission to say something, simply to keep things calm and not yelling.

Celeste43 -> RE: Speaking (9/26/2007 7:20:09 PM)

Not here. He wants to know what I'm thinking and feeling and not just when it's something he's curious about. Although that bad habit I had of saying "I told you so" has been pretty much cured.

Kyra...did you all form your own hand language? or is the one you use ,derived from the language of the deaf?...Tempting

Nope, but if you're needing to ask this question, I'm a little bit concerned about how well you and your M's have negotiated. :)

onmykneesb4Him -> RE: Speaking (9/27/2007 7:35:29 AM)

No, i don't have to ask permission to speak, but i can't interupt Him (i like to talk, so i sometimes forget and do this anyway), and i have to be polite and respectful always. i get shushed a lot, but He typically doesn't punish me in this area.

breatheasone -> RE: Speaking (9/27/2007 8:04:16 AM)

I personally don't have "speech restrictions"...my Master realizes I'm a grown woman with a functioning brain, and trusts me to know how to speak appropriately in any given situation.

yep, you're the only one

i'm freely to speak my mind anytime i want ...it's hard having a conversation if i'm silent

RRafe -> RE: Speaking (9/27/2007 8:06:54 AM)

Sometimes,we all have to learn to shut up long enough to listen.
