TheHeretic -> Release the Hounds! (9/27/2007 10:11:59 PM)

So I'm waking up this morning, wandering through the house in my boxers, scratching inappropriately and waiting for the coffee to kick in, when I realize that the dogs next door are barking differently.  Then I hear the gate rattle and open the front door for a look.  There is this six foot teenager in the driveway, right next to my car.  I asked him, as politely as I could, just what the fuck he was doing in my yard.  "I had to cut through," was his answer.

I opened the screen, and set the the dog on him (85 lbs of wolf-hybrid).  I knew darn well the dog wasn't going to take him (that's a different phrase) but he didn't.  Pretty athletic.  He went from standing still to a belly flop on the roof of my car in a blink.  When the dog circled to the inside, he went flying off and down the street at an impressive sprint.  Three houses down, he dove onto the hood of a tall SUV, and I recalled the dog.

Not a wise choice, I know.  If he'd run out in front of a car, slid right across the SUV hood onto the wrought iron fence on the other side, broken an ankle even, I'd have been liable in civil and criminal actions.  I didn't care.

WTF is wrong with some people?  If he had started with "I'm sorry" he wouldn't have wound up with birdshit on his nice black shirt.  Even if he wasn't checking out my car stereo, just taking a shortcut through a neighborhood of cul-de-sacs, why the hell does he feel his convenience is more important than my property rights?  There's no walkway, he had to scale a 6 foot cinderblock wall and a 5 foot cyclone gate to get to where I found him.

My neighborhood has been going down at a rapid clip.  The ghetto bird just stopped circling about two blocks over.  Thank God we'll be out of here soon.

You did well....I would have been pissed if he had been on the hood of my car, I would have chased him for a beating...depends on how tired I would be or if I had to go to work....I say he could have been a would be thief....and a minimal sorry was in order.

No respect....so set the dogs! [:D]

The only part that worries me is that it was a wolf hybrid. He may not have known what it was but if the cops etc. had gotten involved it might have come out and even in places where owning a hybrid is legal they don't have a much better reputation than pit bulls. You might have been risking your pet's life when a ball bat might have been both equally effective and more satisfying.

TheHeretic -> RE: Release the Hounds! (9/27/2007 11:03:31 PM)

The dog is legal here, and I was reaching for the phone to call the cops when he made a break for it.  I doubt I could have matched his leap onto the car, much less run him down.  Hell, the dog came back a little winded.

I'm pretty sure he won't use my yard again, but you know that when he tells the story (leaving out throwing away his underwear), I'm going to be the bad guy.  He was "entitled" to a shortcut and that mentality pisses me off every time.

sundownhawk -> RE: Release the Hounds! (9/28/2007 3:12:08 AM)

Oops Officer...I was just letting my dog out to piss and this poor clown just happened to be tresspassing.
He's lucky, one of my dogs would have made sure he left about ten pounds lighter in the ass area.
Respect, everyone seems to think they have the right to say and do any dang thing they want, too many kids now seem to have little or no respect for anyone, any rules or anything. Then scream foul when they get dragged out of the auditorium and tazed. (LOL had to take another shot at that moron, sorry)

Me too, Rich; but at least you got a good story out of it [:D]

Sanity -> RE: Release the Hounds! (9/28/2007 5:50:19 AM)

It could have turned out that you had brought a wolf hybrid to a gunfight. If someone were fucking around on my property I'd bring out my Beretta and hold him for the cops. If he ran I'd shoot the ground to make him fill his shorts. It's completely legal here to shoot the ground, outside the city limits...

My dog's worthless for that kind of shit anyway. He's a big goofy black lab that ignores game birds but hunts cows and horses. Eats shit and rolls around in it. He'd probably run from anyone dressed in black like that, who he didn't know!

OUR two chows are better then 5 cops and a truck load of shot guns....some thing about bright white fangs that stops them in their tracks...bounty

I had a chow mix once who I had to rename "psycho" and keep him in a kennal. Huuuge kennal, he was happy, especially if a cat or some other poor critter ever tried to take a short cut through there.

He died of old age. Well, that and lead poison.

Fuck it...  Invite him inside then gut him with a sword...  One more loser out of the gene pool, though I wouldn't be surprised that he'd already sired at least one more little fucker...

Harsh and cold, yes.  Illegal, ultimately yes.  Hard to defend in court...?  You thought you saw the bulge of a gun in his pocket so you defended yourself.

freyjasdottir -> RE: Release the Hounds! (9/28/2007 6:10:25 AM)

My bigger dog is a lab/coon hound mix with chow thrown in for good measure.she's good for barking and that's about it.  And about the kid bragging it may now prevent others from cutting through your yard but keep a close eye on your animals for awhile some people get their jollies throwing not so healthy things to other people's animals.

Just say he was reaching where a man normally carries a weapon. At least, that worked for an former Sherrif here, who shot a man down who was allegedly harassing a woman friend of his.

That was out-of-doors, no less.

For all you trespassers out there….

Rip of shirt or use jacket

Wrap around right forearm

Brace for impact and offer forearm

Dog naturally will bite forearm protected by wrap

Swing arm away from body…dog will hang on offering his side.

Grab tail…if no tail then you are in big trouble.

Yank hard…dog will let go of arm

Continue to pull…pulling dog off feet

Swing dog around in the air then slam to ground

Dog will leave you alone.

These instructions were given out prior to a freedom march in Alabama to neutralize guard dogs….GOOD LUCK

Just kidding but hope the guy does not pull a gun and shoot the dog then you
Butch

Rich:
Trespass is a tricky thing.
You and I both did the cutting through someones yard to save walking around the block to get some place we thought was too important to be to pay attention to someone else's property rights.
You and I both now know that it is wrong and would not do it in most instances.
He may well have been there to boost something or he may have been a teenager with all the common sense that particular specie is noted for.  We must remember though that children only know what they are taught by their parents.  One of the advantages of living in a neighborhood is that it is not difficult to find out who is whom.  Once you find out who he is a chat with his folks might be in order.  I can still remember a few instances where I was called to explain why I had done such and such while the aggrieved party was standing in our kitchen.

Good advice, unless, as with my dog, you are trying to pick up 110 pounds, who is trying to bite much lower than your extended arm.  He and I have been sparring for about 4 1/2 years now,and he knows how to deal with all sorts of stupid people tricks.[:D]

When I read the pamphlet I thought…whoever followed those instructions was one…mean… brave …stupid…SOB.
By the way....When it comes to stupid people tricks….how did you teach him [:D]

Butch:
We had a much simpler tactic.  Everyone carried a couple pieces of broom stick about five or six inches long and blunt on both ends.  Clench one in each hand, when the dog opens his mouth insert hand and release the stick in an upright position once it is wedged in place and carry on with your day.
It also has the added advantage of giving the dog a disincentive to bite in the future.

Don't forget the Acme anvil, to hand the dog while they are hanging in midair....[8|]

Good thing the dog didn't bite the little bastard....who knows if the kid's had his shots????

He had to go over 2 different fences??!!  Oh yeah, just taking a shortcut my ass!  But I'd take the advice about keeping an eye on my dog for a while....just in case.

My dog was part chow, part lab (?), and he could back up a man by simply "foofing" up and baring his teeth.....he was pretty impressive at full foof!  And he meant it too!  Heck, just the fact that he was part chow would stop someone and make them cross the street......never could figure out why....he had such a pretty TOOTHY smile!
