^More amoralism when it comes to "business" from you. Nothing new from what you said before. Doesn't even warrant a response. If you cannot see my point about the importance of human beings over business you only validate what I said about you. Like I said, typical Texan.

If you want me to see your point of view, you are first going to have to show me the numbers and explain your side. Please show me your homework? Why bother starting a debate with me if you all you can do is fire back are insults and name calling? Give me an employee that's being screwed over by Wal-Mart? Sho me a customer who continues to shop at Wal-Mart after being screwed?

It's true that we all don't get the jobs we want. But that does not meat that we have to take the jobs we don't want.

Is this a "It's not fair" ordeal?

They can pay more "It's not fair"
They can sell more for less "It's not fair"
They can advertise more "It's not fair"
They took my customers "It's not fair"
They took my employees "It's not fair"

What do you want? A communist economy where no one has the right to do or be better than the other person?

If all you can fire back are insults, I'm afraid you lost your case.

Wal-Mart is a good place to shop if you're a single mom like i am on a budget.

however, there are many others here who would have you believe it's an evil cult gobbling small businesses and turning millions of people into mindless followers that worship the smilie face.  *rolls eyes*  whatever

Slave labor is slave labor...black,brown.yellow or otherwise.

Wal-Mart isn't the ONLY American company using slave labor for their products either however it's widely picked on because of the products they sell at low prices.  and on my tight budget - i'll choose the low prices any day over paying expensive.

have you ever been a slave?  have you worn the "chains" that forged and built this nation?

neither have i however a job is a job especially to those who live in low income neighborhoods like mine. there aren't too many small businesses to gobble up unless Wal-Mart decides to open a beauty/nail salon one day.

I definitely understand where you're coming from on a personal level, but you have to be able to see the big picture beyond yourself.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: wal-mart...is it evil or a cult? (9/29/2007 1:32:20 PM)

i do see the big picture beyond myself - still as a single mother of 2, i cannot afford to buy the latest fashions without breaking my acct.

i prefer to shop at Wal-Mart, Target, etc and will continue to do so.

InnocentYoungSub -> RE: wal-mart...is it evil or a cult? (9/29/2007 1:36:20 PM)

I understand that, just as long as you do see what's wrong with Wal-Mart. I can't judge you on it, it's a necessary evil unfortunately. I respect that you are a single mother of 2.

So what is wrong with Wal-Mart? It follows all the labor and consumer laws. Most employees are paid over minimum wage. They offer bennifits, promotional opprotunity, and education programs including tutition assistance.
Perhaps this is why they have a 70% turn over in their employees.

Name me a grocery store or gas station that pays it's employees better and sells most of it's products cheaper?
That would be Costco.  Extremely low attrition rate.  Extremely high customer loyality.

Either way, everyone has a choice to apply for work. No one has to work. We only work to get the things we want.
Like food clothing and shelter?

Still flamming? Why are you ending this debate so abruptly? Why did you start this debate with me if you can't finish it? I politely asked for you to tell me your point. What's your side and show me some reasons. And all I get is being called a discusting typical Texan. What kind of a debater are you?

Let's forget about you owning or running a business. Let's just focus on you being an employee. In an interview, what is it about you that says you deserve the job better than everyone else who applied? What do you offer that the others can't give? Can your ability and cost to hire you continue to give the company profit?

So you give prove yourself to be the best and get the job. Guess what? You just made a group of people out on the job hunt again. You kept someone else from working. You proved yourself to be the best man at the most affordable price. How do you feel about that?

It's the exact same thing a business does. Every bank, club, dinner, store, agency, service, etc... is only out there to prove themselves as being the best for the most affordable price.

We all have the right to pursue to be the best. Unfortanatly, only one can be the best. Second place is the first who looses. That's the way the cookie cumbles no matter which way you try to eat it.

laurell3 -> RE: wal-mart...is it evil or a cult? (9/29/2007 3:40:50 PM)

wow now that's a viscious hijack.  I'm not saying walmart is evil and I do appreciate the pricing, but at least the store by me is very poorly managed.  It was a funny thread about a bad shopping experience....but ya all keep throwing bombs at each other.

FangsNfeet -> RE: wal-mart...is it evil or a cult? (9/29/2007 3:49:55 PM)

Wal-Mart has a 70% turn over in employees? Good for those who had quit. If they found someone else who payed better, I hope they would be smart enough to go where the money is. If this turn over rate continues, Wal-Mart will have to revealuate what it takes to keep good employees. The Turn Over rate proves that no one has to work for Wal-Mart.

Is Costco better? I'm not going to argue. It's fribolous to debate on where it's best to shop for the cheapest items or work for the best wages/bennifits. Everyone has there preference.

No one has to work. It's a choice to work. Food, clothing, and shelter can be obtained in a number of ways. Live on the streets, the wild, hunt, bum, and or steal. None of us have to do anything untill we want something. There's always a choice.

i wasn't raised to believe work was an option nor do i raise my kids to think that way. Living on the streets, being a bum, stealing aren't options to not working they are usually the tragic result of people, for whatever reasons (mental illness, drug addiction) not being able to hold down a job.  If you are independently wealthy you have that luxury, most average people aren't.

I'm the one getting nuked. Do you see me calling anyone names or making assumptions about how I think they live there life? I'm just sticking to the facts and not being judgemental. I'm not here to question ones intelligence nor judge there preference on life. However, some are unable to return the same curtiousy and follow through with a civil debate/discussion.

To my understanding, there is a stereo type of the "Typical Texan." The defintion of this stereo type details about a person who will become upset when someone else has a different view than they do. They will begin to critisize, get emotional, become angry, start name calling as well as make false acqusations, and storm off mad without ever trying to persuade the other person to agree with them. They leave with "Well, well, well, You're STUPID!"

Is it just me or does anyone else think that there may be a "Typical Texan" posting on this thread?

FangsNfeet -> RE: wal-mart...is it evil or a cult? (9/29/2007 4:12:09 PM)

I work because I choose to. I like having my house, car, and want the best for my child to be. Since I like and want these things, I choose to work. I perfer not to be a bum. Although, I do hear bums are making pretty good money these days. Some have cleared $100,000 in just one year. However, I'm too good looking to appear that pathetic.

There's no doubt that I'm a working man. But I work because I choose to. Nothing is making me have to work except for the things I want and like to have.

velvetears -> RE: wal-mart...is it evil or a cult? (9/29/2007 4:14:27 PM)

Would you consider yourself materialistic with no work ethic?  Trying to understand where self pride and wanting to take care of oneself and contribute something meaningful comes into play?

FangsNfeet Don't ever think I'm actually attacking you just because your name happens to be what cm lists in my response.  I wasn't directing it at you, just saying, wow this was started as a frivilous funny post, why can't we all get along type of thing.

I'm materialistic and I have a strong work ethic thank you very much.

All I am pointing out  is that no one has to work if they wish not to. We don't have to do anything untill we decide that we want something. I want and like things, so I work to get them.

So where does self pride come into play? Pride is a double edge sword. Needless to say, I'll admit to sucking it up more than once to do what was needed in having what I want. I don't have to have my life style. I can throw it away along with my career if I choose to. All the same, I'd rather not make the decission.
