John Cusack Interviews Naomi Klein About "The Shock Doctrine" [VIDEO]
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/64198/

-----

It's long, but good. Even if you watch just the first minute you will come away with something meaningful. There really are strategies at work in our economy that should shame anyone that wants to consider themselves a 'human being." Yet using disasters and crises to turn a buck has become the norm.

Reworking a Cusack quote from the link: Should we seek defense policy advice from those that profit from defense spending? Should defense have a profit motive?

Why do we have to privatize everything? Maybe that's not such a good idea...

If there's any defense for Friedman, it's that he believed that law enforcement and defense should remain in control of the State.

Klein is careful not to get caught up in trashing any one person's viewpoint. But it is Friedman's ideas that have been taken to an extreme and without any restriction by the champions of his economic theory.

Cusack also tries to get her to say that she supports Keynesian economic theory, but she corrects him by labelling her ideas as part of mixed economic model.

Obviously, she wants to talk about her ideas and not get too bogged down in discussing someone else's.

Just saying...

I don't think the Airlines should have been "deregulated."
It used to be a pleasure to fly 30 years ago.
Look at it now, it's a fucking nightmare.
There are lots of things that the government should be doing.
A few years back Bush said something about how much money we could save if we "privatised" govt. jobs like janitors and groundskeepers. In other words working people.
If he really wanted to save money in that area "privatize" the State Dept!
We don't need to be paying people $120k per year for sitting at desks shuffling papers when secretaries can be doing those jobs for $50k.

Remember back when telcos were regulated?

Was "FEWEST Dropped Calls" ***EVER*** a selling point???

Nope. There weren't any dropped calls. Now some will say that there's an essential difference b/t cellular and copper.

There is. You can't save money by skimping on provisioning copper. It either WORKS or it DON'T WORK.

Cellular, every site you don't build is money in the bank.
