feline -> Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 10:23:58 AM)

I'd like to know your opinions on tattoos.

What do you think of them?

Do you have any?

If no, would you be willing to get one if asked to?

If yes, what was your experience like? Did it have significance?

Would you get another if asked to?

Would you be willing to share a picture if possible?

Thanks in advance,

COYoungDom -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 10:31:05 AM)

Tattos are ok I have no problem with them. I don't have any yet. I'd only get one if i wanted one. I'd only get one. If the person wanted one like mine than ok.

SirKenin -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 10:35:03 AM)

Tattoos are great until Y/you are 80 years old. Then they do not look so hot anymore. A gecko suddenly turns into a dragon or something.

I will be having one done. The shu on My forearm with My nickname underneath. My pet will be getting the dorei done on her leg with the word "owned" underneath.

Other than that I will pass.

greenie -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 10:39:35 AM)

I have 4 tatts. Once I decided what I wanted I waited usually 2 years just to make sure it was something I was going to want long term. I think they can be an expression of uniqueness and individuality or they can be just another way to follow the masses, depending on how unique your tattoo is. Mine all have meaning to me or represent a place or time in my life. I have a heart with a chastity belt on the inside of my left breast just on my heart which of course represents that my heart is locked but for the one who holds the key. At the time there wasn't a key holder but it was more of a reminder to myself to not give it so freely. Another one I have is on the opposite breast and is a heart with a dagger going through it, a rose lying on top, and a ribbon holding it together which represents the pain of love but that love can come again and a heart although never the same can be held together. I'm also a bunny collector, stuffed, figurines, pictures, so of course I had to have a bunny tattoo which is on the back of my left shoulder. After my divorce 2 years ago I got my last tattoo which is of a green fairy on my right bum cheek which is more for representing a time in my life rather then any significant meaning. Tatts can hurt depending on your pain threshold and where on your body you get them done but for the most part for me it was just really irritating, like someone was pestering me and just wouldn't leave me alone lol. If I was to get another it would be because it was something I wanted and not something someone wanted me to get, tattoos are very personal and will be with you a lifetime. Long ago I decided that I would never get a mans name on me or even a symbol representing them, maybe representing the situation but never them. That's just my personal choice though. I can only post one pic so it's hard to see the details of my tatts because I chose the one pic that showed both of my breast tatts.

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 10:41:12 AM)

I love them... ink is addicting.

I have a "few", a large Macaw parrot that stretches from my hip to my knee... the bird is finished but the tat isn't... gonna have a tree put around it.

I also have roses and such that go all the way across the top of my chest (not finished either... they are going to eventually meet up with the Macaw) and a dragon on my back.

But I think the best one is on my arm. I have half of a phoenix on my upper arm with the words "Forever bound to ___"(hubby's name)... he has the other half on his upper arm, with the same words with my name. When we stand side by side it makes a complete phoenix.

I will post a pic as soon as I can get to the puter I have it stored on.

Hopefully if I make it to 80 I will no longer be vain enough to care....lol.

I have 4. I have an Irish Claddagh with shamrocks on my calf. Flowers with a tribal pattern behind them on my breast. Fairies on my lower back and left shoulder. There will be an additional fairy on my right shoulder and I hope to complete the entire back in an airy fashion with added butterflies, dragonflies and vines. I would also like to add to the one on my breast. As for additional ones beyond that.....who knows....as Jewel said.....ink is addictive.

kezzo -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 11:01:25 AM)

Lordandmaster -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 11:12:39 AM)

I love it when people get Chinese tattoos and don't know the meaning of what some dumass is putting on their bodies. People, just because a poster on the tattoo-parlor wall says such-and-such means "Born Free" doesn't mean it's true.

This one girl wanted to show me her "slave" tattoo, right at the bottom of her back, above her ass. Guess what. It said "kitchen boy." At first she was pissed off at me for teasing her. Then she finally realized I wasn't lying.

Marcus Camby, the basketball player, has a nice big tattoo on his arm that says something like "struggle for the race." At least that's what I thought it meant--until he said in a press conference what HE thought it meant. And it was ridiculous (I forget exactly). At least he's lucky that his mistake actually means something intelligible.

feline -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 11:20:59 AM)

WOW! Thanks everyone who responded so far. That was quick. lol

COYoungDom - that truely is the only reason to get one. [;)]

SirKenin - at 80 do you think you'll really care? lol They sound wonderful.

greenie
- all your tatts sound wonderful, thanks for posting a picture. I have to agree, after a point it becomes more annoying then painful. All depends on where you get them. [;)]

ShiftedJewel - addicting?! naaaa lol! Can't wait to see your pic.

mistoferin
- sounds wonderful! Were they all done by the same artist?

kezzo - ok, so I'm curious as to which tattoos your past girl had that turned you on?

Thanks again!

Isolde -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 11:48:51 AM)

I like tattoos if there's meaning behind them, or an obvious connection between multiple tattoos. My brother has upwards of 30 but they're scattered and mismatched. I think he was addicted to getting them and didn't much care what went on at times. Some of them have meaning for him, some don't.

I have one myself, on my left hip. It's a blue rose, opened over a black tribal claw pattern in black, about 3 inches long and an inch and a half wide. I was nineteen when I went with my brother to his favorite artist to get it put on. He was paying for it as a going away present; I was about to leave home and get married. He said it was to remind me that I didn't have to try to fit myself into the typical mould of the stay at home prim and proper Army officer's wife.

The experience wasn't bad. I chose my hip because I wanted a place that could be easily hidden (I knew my fiance wouldn't approve) and the shape of the tattoo suited that spot. It meant I had to undress from the waist down but the artist was good about putting me at my ease and making sure I was covered with a towel for modesty. The process itself was painful. At first it was like being stung over and over by a tiny wasp. After awhile, it was more like having a high-pressure washer turned on you- a very localized stinging pressure. It hurt but I didn't mind it, and didn't feel the need to ask him to pause as he offered to do a couple of times.

The healing process was kind of gross, with the scabbing and the itching.

I would like to get another one but don't really have the money to throw away on something like that. I don't have a picture of my current one either or I'd share. [:)]

CalliopePurple -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 1:43:49 PM)

I agree with Lam's remark, which is why I researched what the kanji for "dream" was before I got it on my left breast.

Also have a butterfly on my left shoulder and I want more, dammit. Body mod in general is addicting because of the endorphin rush. Don't want too much, or else it'll interfere with the whole "cute and innocent" appearance.

stormsfate -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 2:00:44 PM)

I love tattoos, I have tattoos, and yes, each of them had special significance to me at the time they were done. However, the ones I had done almost 20 years ago are ones that I could now let go of without any hesitation. They represented significant events in my life, but its funny how as life progresses, things that were of such monumental importance at one point in your life later are not important at all.

There are two that I would keep, and that will never lose significance to me. I would like to have one more done, but only if I could have others removed. :)

best regards,
fate

P.S. LaM is SO right...lol. My kanji symbol is only half finished!!! Fortunately, the part that was done is correct.

softandshy -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 2:51:10 PM)

i have one and it has great meaning for me. It is the footprint of a crow. i traced it from a print left in the snow after a rookery came by. i kept a stray feather too. A full year after the event i decided that yes, i'd want to wear that for life, even if it winds up looking like a dragon. lol So on it went.

There is another i'd like also, but it's so hard to find tortoise footprints!

i hope that if i am with a partner for a long time, She may want to mark me. i'd actually be thrilled to do that if i knew that the relationship was really committed, even knowing that things can always change. To have been in a dedicated relationship is not ever shameful to me so i could retain a symbol of the relationship comfortably. i wouldn't remove it voluntarily if we broke apart.

That said, i do have a strong preference for black ink only tatoos because i don't like the way some of the colored ones fade or change.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 6:37:32 PM)

I have a few.

This one I designed myself. My original thought was an image much like the back of thong underware. As I looked at many examples of tribal work & even a floral pattern I found in antique wall paper I came up with this.

I am currently working on another large piece that will wrap around my right thigh & cover the area around my hip.

perverseangelic -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 7:08:06 PM)

I -adore- tattoos that are well done.

Do you have any?

I have a celtic sun between my shoulder blades. I will be getting two more--a briar rose, and a dandelion, on my left and right shoulders

If no, would you be willing to get one if asked to?
Of course, but the partner doesn't like tattooing, so I shan't be getting anymore.

If yes, what was your experience like? Did it have significance?
My tattoo is very important to me, it encompases several aspects of my personality. I believe that one should modify one's body to reflect ones mind. My tattoo does that.

Would you be willing to share a picture if possible?

The other two tattoos I will be getting are these--

Quivver -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 7:12:02 PM)

Always thought I wanted one but I shy'd away due to an allergy from ink as a child. But brands are another story all together. Being large critter friendly (no not like that!) and the history of branding herd animals it seems to be a great alternative. I've not gotten one as of yet on my own accord, although I do have herd brand I've considered using. But then again, someday I may not belong to my own herd........

Would you be willing to share a picture if possible Sure! here is the one that Thorns drew for me, then had my back marked.

peppermint379 -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 7:35:27 PM)

What do you think of them?

I've love tattoos!!

Do you have any?

Have 3...2 butterflies and a heart on my chest, a flowery thing based on the BDSM emblem on my shoulder, and two fairies, male and female on my thigh. Heck, when i turned 50 i decided it was time to stop thinking about a tat (cause i'd been doing that for 30 years) and finally get one.

If yes, what was your experience like? Did it have significance?

Tat on shoulder didn't sting at all. Walked out of that tattoo place with a great endorphin high. With the fairies tattoo, after 3 hours i hit my tolerance wall and had to go back a couple months later to have it completed. Each of my tattoos represent the most important event of the previous year.

Would you get another if asked to?

Doesn't matter if i'm asked to get one or not....i will get another.

Would you be willing to share a picture if possible?

Sure...if collarme will let me upload the thing

UtopianRanger -> RE: Tattoos~*~ (7/25/2005 8:58:28 PM)

During my years in the Marines, there was many a time when I thought about getting one, and almost did. But before I left home, my father told me : ''If you come home with a tattoo - Your cut out of the will'' End of story.

I think tattoos are fine, but on women, they only look good on certain parts of the body.
