Ive seen it happen a fair bit of late when someone posts a question and wants peoples thoughts on it then they put ill post my thoughts in a comment or ill post it later.

Makes me think they are just wanting to know what other people think to go with the flow.

Mmmm...I don't see it that way. I think often times a person wants fresh thoughts from others without perhaps tainting the responses from the get go by giving the perspective of the OP. Or perhaps the OP hasn't decided one way or another and would like to mull over different viewpoints before making a decision.

I don't see anything nefarious in it either way...lol.

best regards,
fate

I do not think they are making their opinions or statements based on the norm, however I am sure that happens. My Master is always telling me it is not what you say but how you say. Perhaps that is what they are doing thinking about how to say what they are thinking without it coming across as an attack or simply raw emotion.

I think when someone says that... it is a big compliment to the original poster. That their question caused the responder to really think about the subject. I also think that the responder wants to give an answer from their heart and not just the politically correct one.

I guess I think the total opposite of you on this, remember now... I am a total optimist :)

I've done it - and when I do, I either don't want to risk influencing the others who may/may not participate, or I'm wanting more perspective before I say something that maybe I shouldn't.

Some ppl post for a real thought and answer. Others post to try and get the answer they want to hear and hope to justify themselves and actions. But what do they do when they don't get the answer they wanted? Some submissives want to post so that they can have a "see I told you so" moment with there dom if they get the answers they want. Other people will want to post just to stir up the old hornest nest.

There are many reasons why ppl do the things you have mentiond. Other people even get down right hurt and insulted because of a commit or smart ass remark as well as when they get the "What the hell are you thinking?" message.

That's all I really have to say.

I like to see what other people have to say sometimes before I open up and give my thoughts. Rest assured though I am not trying to conform, it just gives me time to think.

Could be - sometimes people might just want to have their own thoughts reassured. Some people are just not wanting to influence their own thread. What ever the reason - so what? You answer or you don't - your choice.

I started a thread on intellect and wisdom, knowing my thoughts have already been aired privately to the quiet and unassuming few - so if I decide to voice my opinions on my subject, I will without fear of going against the majority. No one has yet asked me to voice them, and if they did I would. But that post was for me - It is an interesting insight on how and why people react to posts the way they do - it helps understand a posters perspective instead of judging them purely on the words placed on a screen with no injection of feeling or personality, judging, being what so many people do.

It is easy to assume the reason instead of desiring to understanding it.

Peace and Love

i loved dark angel's thread on "Intellect and Wisdom"; it was a great thought-provoker. i have posted some threads myself; primarily asking for help; usually on someone else's behalf; once on my own (to stop cursing). i cannot remember posting on a religion or politics question meant to bring out strong opinions. i did post on cigarette smoking which did bring out stong opinions..but to a degree that rather surprised me, i have to say. Since i don't intend to stop smoking, i was attempting to guage the reaction of P/pl; mostly Doms and Masters; because i do want a LTR but cannot even imagine not smoking (though i can imagine a compromise).

i guess starting a thread is fun; it means a topic you have some interest in will be brought to the fore and probably other P/pl will respond. They will give the "problem" T/their time and attention....and W/we have some deep thinkers here. The advice and reflective posts are invaluable.

I think people just judge others on how they do things, or would do things themselves. If theyre a follower, they judge a poster is because thats what they would do.If they are after insight, then they judge everyone that it's purely insight they are looking for. Many people judge only, by their own standards.

I do this sometimes but it's not to see what others say..it's because the question or topic is provoking enough to get a response from me..like this one..I simply want to have time to reflect and then respond...I've tempered this by thinking about the subject the responding..even if the response is very similar to others it's a case of many minds seeing from a similar point of view...
