Now, on a brighter note (for me) I just happen to despise racism. Yet, I find that I have tended, at times, to carry some of the societal conditioning around as an unconcious bit of garbage. Something I don't particularly like, nor am I proud of. Well, that being said, yesterday something happened that brought a great deal of joy to my crusty, hard, black heart. Someone here at the shop asked me who dropped off some copies of a local publication we advertise in. Yes, I was present when the person left them and yes I do remember speaking to them. No, I don't think I have ever met them or know them. Then the person asking said "was it a really talkative black guy?" To which I replied with a blank stare and an "ahhhhhhhh, I don't know.... not really talkative, yeah I think it was a guy, very sweet and unassuming, but I honestly don't know if he was black or not." Now, I have always been annoyed when people use race or certain phrases to describe a person that they would not otherwise use. Example: "We have a new director of sales, a woman, she obviously knows her stuff, kinda cold and businesslike and yet, somewhat personable. Seems like she could be a bitch if you crossed her" OR, "We have a new field engineer, black guy, seems to be pretty smart and well spoken. Went to school at MIT even!" If you cannot see why those bug me....come here and let me slap you. Anyway, the part of this whole thing that made me happy was the fact that I honestly could not remember if this guy was any specific race. I even had to stop and really think about gender. The qualities that did stick out in my mind were the instant perceptions of personality and humanity. And THAT is the way I want to think of people, the inner person they are not the exteriour package.

Not enough it seems as they keep coming back. My week is a little something like this Monday; Jahova's Witness's, Tues; Democrats Wen; Girl Scouts Thru; Mormons Fri; KKK. Out of all of them only the Girl Scouts are welcome, Cause I like their cookies and there's something cute about little girls who want to by flack vests for police dogs. The other picks show up like clockwork not discourged by the fact that I always answer the door wearing a gun. So people never learn.

On a more serious note, I agree with LaTigresse about remembering people for who they are, not what color they are. After all, in my bio-anthro classes we learned that technically, race does not exist. It is a cultural construct. Its all about what it inside; genetics that is. I could have more in common genetically with the person next to me who has darker skin that I do, than I do with the person who has the same color skin as I do. So, I try to ignore what color a person is, and focus more on who a person is. It doesn't always work, but nobody's perfect, right?

I have found if you answer the door in the nude and happily invite Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses into your abode they turn tail and run. Don't naked people need salvation, also?

As and ex-Chipendales dancer I have learned that the naked body while akward and sligthly funny looking does not discourage all people. In fact allowing crazed rednecks to veiw my naked neather regions would be a bad move in my neck of the woods

First of all no Mormons are not a race nor do I hate them for their religion beliefs. I hate them because they won't leave me alone every Thrusday at 2:00pm they ring my doorbell and drag me away from whatever I'm doing. If I dont answer they wallpaper my door with leaflets and my Landlord bitches at me about it. Second. Mexicans are part of a race called latinos. Which includes people from Spain, Cuba and parts of South America. Third. Arabs are a race of people, which incoperates those who live in the Middle East. No I do not know the exact paramiters of that one but a sane person knows what im talking about when I say Arabs. Fourth. No Homosexuals are not a race but a lifestyle choice. I set my scope on a wide range to show how vulgar people are towards other who are or are presumed different. Finally if your gonna post please leave your stupidity at the door. Stupid jokes are fine but genuine stupidity is a burden on every one. You have two ears, two eyes and one mouth. Look and listen twice as much as you talk.

I think your psuedo-righteous rants are PATHETIC. You're going on how other people act and are soo damn pre-justic yet you bash people who have a differnt view on religion than you? They bug you, come to your house try to brain wash you and such, and that unnerves your day. I never said any thing about their religion though yes I could have. I dislike them from ruining my day those needless annoyance. I have better things to do that pasifi an unrelenting mindless zealot. True that if they could think for themselves they would be less of a pain. But being a mindless puppet is the American way. Now I am not being desciminant because I equally dislake any one who hounds me daily and disrups my routine.
