Libido Issues - 10/4/2007 10:55:17 AM

I was wondering if anyone might have some advice for an issue that been going on for about 4 months now. I just don't seem to get wet anymore. At least, not without actual penetration. Which really complicates things. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a natural way to relieve this problem. Yes, we use KY, but I'm getting a bit tired of that. And, frankly, needing to use it means that I'm just not as turned on as I'd like to be during actual intercourse. I'm almost 27 years old, so I should be well on my way to my sexual peak. Which is why this is so baffling. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gwen

Oh my...no honey....please don't think its because you are not "turned on"....there could be MANY reasons you are experiencing vaginal dryness...of course you could go to a Dr...or there are vaginal suppositories for prolonged effect....they are available at any drug store or even your grocery store...give them a try...perhaps it will help!

It certainly feels like I'm not as turned on as I used to be. My skin isn't as sensitive to the touch, either. Suppositories for dryness? I've never heard of them. I'll have to go check it out.

As breatheasone said , there could be many reasons for it, stress, environment, food alergy the list goes on and on...the main thing is i think most women go through this at one time or another, and usually it is not permnant. The main thing is not to make the situation worse by stressing about it. Try what has been suggested and if you are still concerned talk to your dr.

If you feel it is totally about your level of being turned on and not physical at all then it can be a ton of things from what is going on in your relationship, personal issues, going through a short term phase or many other reasons.

If you are just flat out having problems physically though your first step should be to a doctor and my opinion go to a doctor to make sure it is not a physical no matter what you believe and go from there as at least a starting point.

sounds like it could be hormonal to me.  have you recently changed birth control pills?  speak to your doctor...be frank.  there's lots of things that they can check for and remedies they can prescribe.

I wonder that myself. It's been about four months now, with no relief in sight (no pun intended.. ok, maybe.) But, no, I don't, nor have I ever taken birth control. Master has been snipped, so it's not an issue. I'm considering broaching the subject tonight.

The arousal = weakness formula is not quite as reliable as people would like to think. Some women simply have problems producing the correct amount of lube needed for intercourse - regardless of how aroused they actually are. If it really concerns you, a visit to the gyno should help you figure out if there are any actual problems. Otherwise, don't beat yourself up about it! If you feel aroused and you want sex but your body isn't working with you, there is no shame at all in adding lube.

I really appreciate the different suggestions. I was doing a bit of checking, educating myself before making an appointment, and stumbled across a couple of studies that recommend fatty acids to increase libido. Now I'm wondering if my slacking off in taking my fish oil has caused this issue. Possibly it had a detrimental effect...?

I cant agree with Breatheasone more but here is something that is a lot less messy and so much more slich then any brand of KY out there or anel ease.   Try WET PLATINUM it is DOC recomended , stays slick under water , and Guaranteed never sticky, on top of that a little goes sooooooooooo farrrrrrrrrrrrr   Just about any sex shop will have it and it comes in realy good flavors to.

Regarding fatty acids and libido ... fats are necessary to make sex hormones.  If you are stressed, the fats are diverted from making the yummy hormones and cycled off somewhere else (though I do not recall where).  This is part of the biochemical reason why stress lowers libido.  Being on a really low fat or no fat diet would likely do this, too.  Making sure that you have good fats in your diet is good for a number of reasons (a yummy libido being among them!).

Were you concerned about lower libido, or specifically dryness?

I haven't done a lot of reading on this, but female libido is a pretty complicated thing (with men it seems to be more straightforward).  That's part of the reason why there is no female version of viagra -- there are too many different things that affect women's desire and arousal.    What has changed for you in the past four months in regard to lifestyle, relationship, diet, medications you are taking?  That might be a good place to start looking.

Have you recently started on any SSRI's - they can significantly reduce the libido?

Yeah, there are many medications that affect libido, as well as diet, stress, etc. Examine what changes have happened in life around the time the change happened and then discuss them with someone in a position to help. One of my best friends had her libido crushed by her antidepressants at your age, she switched meds (to wellbutrin) and was as horny/wet as ever within weeks.

Viagra produces a purely physical response, as far as I'm aware.  It helps men who want to have sex but physically can't, not men who aren't interested in sex (i.e., have low libido).

I can't quite work out if the OP is just experiencing low physical response (lack of wetness and so on) or also decreased interest in sex (low libido).  Either way, seeing a doctor about it would be a good idea -- in particular, they know what questions to ask to find out if it's something really obvious and easy to sort out.  And definitely discuss it with your partner.

Agreed. Stress, hormone fluctuations, depression, medications, menstrual cycle, etc., can alter both libido and lubrication. For example, if I have one drink of alcohol it's curtains for both for me, hence my not drinking!! It could be as simple as needing a little more foreplay than before or maybe a mild vaginal infection. It could have happened a couple of times due to your being stressed (for instance) and now that you're focusing on it, it's becoming more of a problem.

Try to relax and see a doctor. Most of these problems are very easy to fix, so don't worry!!

I have been stressed about this crap job I've got (of which I'm ridding myself in a week's time..yay!) And actually, I have been trying to diet for the last few months. I'm kind of wishy washy about it, though.

I'm actually concerned with both. And you really gave me some things to consider. Thanks so much!

Gwen

even though you're young, it wouldn't hurt to go have a hormone level test done on yourself; you could be lacking in naturally produced estrogen.
