Okay I have had enough of IE. I've looked at both Firefox and Opera, now I'm hoping to get opinions from those that use them.
Do you have a browser preference?

Hi Camille--

I'm a Firefox fan from way back.  From time to time, I'll find an incompatibility (one of the major airlines' online checkin won't handle the "print boarding passes" command properly).  In cases like that, I'll flip back to IE.  But only for enough time to get the job done.

What is it that you like? This IE is annoying me lol. I used Firefox years ago and am pretty sure I liked it, but I'm hoping to get a lot of different views/likes/dislikes.
Thanks thornhappy.

Opera all the way. It's the best there is.

If a site requires IE, use it. Sometimes the people that coded a website require it for some BS reason. I mean, they shouldn't have done that on purpose, but some people are idiots - so what can you do? And it is possible on server side (theirs) to sniff out all kinds of things on the client machine (yours) so just go with the flow where you have to like banks, bill-paying, or other necessary websites.

Firefox is cool. I like it. But in business applications are often coded for IE only. I've just gotten used to dealing with it. I also don't have to wonder if a site is going to work or not. I've tried a lot of browsers but always seem to come back to old faithful. Old, slow, buggy faithful.

Fire fox.  Faster & more secure than IE.  Lots of cool add ons.

All I can say is that I switched from using Safari to Firefox on the Mac about a month ago and I feel like I've just stopped hitting myself in the head with a large blunt object. Now I'm not knocking those here who might like brick-on-head play, but it's never been one of my kinks. Firefox has a few glitches that I've noted, but it is far and away better than Apple's sorry browser. Much better use of memory for starters, and it's pretty well implemented overall.

Reinstalling IE and making sure you have AV and firewalls could work, too.  I'm on IE without a virus or spyware for months now.

I don't use file sharing programs, though, so there's a strong possibility that that would increase IE's usage risk greatly.  Ditto for porn sites.  (They're both major virus sources.)  So, if you don't happen to use either sort of thing, IE's viable.

Hello as a IT consultant I prefer either firefox or avant . Avant sits on the IE browser platform but comes with all kinds of  improvements little hassle. We have been running it from the beginning of the IE 6.1updates . It is free but I suggest if you use it please donate this is a awesome program. http://www.avantbrowser.com/

Thanks to everyone for sharing their opinion. GMRTGS, what does it mean 'Avant sits on the IE browser platform'? Use small words when explaining to me lol.
Add ons are something I am very interested in.

i have been using Firefox ever since its development.  no problems using it - has automatic pop-up blockers and works with yahoo and msn toolbars. simple and easy to install and they'll let you know when updates are ready for download.

i highly recommend it

Browsers?   We don't need no steenkin browsers.....just stare at the raw HTML/XML long enough and you'll go googly!

Actually, for Windows(tm) I like Firefox with some of the addons/extensions (though IE now has them...for a price) over the browsers.

One nice addon  is IETab for Firefox.  It allows you to set certain websites to open in IE instead of Firefox.   Once you hit a site and it wants IE you just "View page in IE Tab" and presto...it looks like it was designed to...and you can add it as a permanent option for that website so when you go there again, it automatically knows to use IE instead of Firefox.

Plus cool addons...did I mention addons?   Like Flashblocker, adblocker, anonymouser, etc.

Tried avant, tried firefox (still on my computer)back to Navigator, tried opera (still on my computer), tried Enigma, always came back to IE, never any problems, never a site that wont load due to incompatability, I hate MicroSnot and the gates attitude, but the bottom line is the browser works.

I have used Opera for years, and really like the way it works, although many sites where you have to do financial stuff only use IE, so for those few things I still use IE. I had never heard of Avant. I will go right now and learn a bit about it.

Downloaded Avanta, now trying it out.  So far, I like the layout better than IE, but it is a lot slower and "clunkier", awkward feeling than Opera.  Will see if it grows on me or not.
