A dear friend of mine who served in the Vietnam war and was injured and on disability since was treated with such disrespect recently. He has been going to a local diner here in town for the past ten years sometimes alone, sometimes w/ his biker friends- always a good customer, a very wonderful man...Recently, he was asked by a server and a hostess to leave the diner because his appearance scared some customers (he has tattoos and dresses in typical biker gear- nothing racial or otherwise)..he was obviously hurt by this and left..I told him he should file a lawsuit against the place because they have no right to ask you to leave when it says on their walls "we proudly serve everyone"....what's up with that?? I was very hurt because he is the kindest man you could ever meet- he once damn near ripped a car door off lol- to get a young child out of a car who was trapped after a car accident..it's sad that a restaurant that is run by people from another country could treat their loyal customers this way..sad

the worst thing to do is nothing .i would tell everyone that will listen not to eat there , letting the management know what they did wrong might be a good idea too.

You have the right to not serve someone because of their appearance....If the guy looks like a dirt bag...They may not want him in their establishment.

Now he could complain....I doubt that anyone would listen. If he has friends and they cannot see how the restaurant could deny this guy service then they should take it upon themselves to let management know they will no longer be frequenting this place as long as they will not serve the dirt bag.

Start a lynch mod.
That's defamation of charter right there and if he's such a great guy then he'd have a mess of friends to complain to management.
Hope you took names of the servers.

Unfortunetly Domiguy is right. In america the owners of the Diner have the right to refuse service to any one. Sad but true. Now your friend could make a sink about it, get it written up in the paper Boicot and picket the place, and in general rasie some low level hell. But the best thing would be to move on with his life.
Now I can simpatize with the other customers. They base their desicion of him based on others of the same style. Lets face it Bikers dont have the best reps. I personally have had to bust a few of the rougher bastards.(still have a few of the nastier knife scars) People would rather not live in fear. I know I would have a better time eating if I didn't have to keep one hand on my gun, knife, etc... to ensure that I can defend my self should the occasion arise.

Ha, that's like people telling me that I can't be a good doctor because I like to wear ripped jeans and studded belts.
It's sterotyping.
Plain and simple.
Or if we want to go really deep, it like saying all Mexican park their cars on their lawns.
If someone doesnt like the wa someone else looks, then the person with the problem should leave.

First off, you just might be the best doctor that chooses to wear ripped jeans and studded belts....And I just might be the type of patient that would choose not to utilize your services solely based upon your appearance....Amazing how that works!!!

If someone's appearance sucks so much ass....or maybe they smell horrific....Who should the establishment choose to remove?  The dirt bag or the other paying customers....it is allowed it is not discrimination...It is how the world works....Have you ever been to a place with a dress code? ...Or tie mandatory?  At even a fairly shitty diner they just might have some sort of a minimum standard as to who they will allow to come in and take a seat.

haha, I'm not a twit, I wouldnt wear  ripped jeans in the hospital. But out and about. I'll dress as I please, and that doesnt make me bad at what I do, nor does it make me a bad person.
Dirt bag?
Because he looks different then you?
judgemental much?
And when is it ok to toss someone  out because of dress? It's not ok to toss someone out by the color of their skin. I feel it falls along the same lines.

And the OP clearly stated in her first post that there was no dress code.

One would think you might set some professional standard as to put your patients at ease. If a surgeon is going to operate on me with a standard scapel thats fine. If he uses a chainsaw because he wants to, and he maybe the best doctor in the freakin world, but Im not going to feel safe enough to let him near me. Basicly we as people need to set standards for ourselves if we want others to not judge us.

Growing old is manditory, wisdom and maturity are optional.

I wasn't talking about his actual age, how many years he's bee roaming this earth, I was talking about his mind set. It's that of a child.

Yeah I'm a child because I was talking about something you not only should know but practice. And the funny thing is, I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.

So because I'm in the med-feild, I have to always dress like it and act like it?
Says you.
Point is, when someone doesnt want me working on them, they leave. I dont.
If they have the issues then they can go elsewhere
Same thing with the other people in the resturant, they find the guys looks offence, they can leave.
end of.

Maybe it is places with x number of seats cant refuse to serve. --I dont find bikers intimadiating.  I dealt w them some when I worked along i80.

depending on the location, i still doubt they can do this. deny service based on biker garb.

the management needs to buy the man dinner at his favorite place
