Was it a picture of a nun giving a blowjob? I'm curious now dammit.

Fast Reply To No One To Particular.

I always find it amusing when I read some of the replies to these threads.

Why is it so hard to grasp that implying that every self proclaimed submissive or slave should in fact pay some kind of homage or tribute to every self proclaimed dominant is roughly on par with implying that every black person should not drink out of a white person's water fountain because they are in fact black?

Why is it even harder to understand that a protrocol used within the scope of an individual relationship or the scope of a High Protocol or Leather group where everyone agrees to form a social hierorachy isnt the same thing as a protocol applied universally?

Why do people insist on implying that things exist when they dont?

GoldStallion -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 12:29:47 PM)

The capitalisations which involve a slash are annoying and difficult to read. If someone uses a small i instead of I, then my response is to assume that they have very low self esteem - if someone cant even put the effort in to move their little finger and press the shift key when referring to themselves, then, well, they are not a good submissive. I mean what have you got to submit thats of any value if you dont place any value on yourself?

Use the rules of grammar, if you know them. If you dont then learn as you go along. They are there for a reason, namely to enable clarity of written communication.

Now, I am not sure if there is a correlation between "i" users and subs who insist they are not to be treated like doormats and treated with respect as they are not just doormats and are to be treated with respect, and they dont just submit to anyone....but I am sure I am about to find out.

And personally, I would find a complete stranger deciding what to do with my name insulting.

As a counterpoint ... I didn't capitalize "I" for years.  It seemed weird to agrandize oneself over "you."  It seemed weird and inconsistent so I didn't do it.

It is a bizarre convention of English. The French don't capitalize je.

GoldStallion -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 12:41:39 PM)

Its just honest, I do consider my self more important than whoever the "you" might be referring to. I am the centre of my universe, whether I like it or not. Generally I like it.

I wholeheartedly agree with capitalization of Dominant pronouns because it shows respect.  It puts the sub in his place automatically before he even voices his opinion.  he should always be lower case even at the beginning of a sentence.  I don't demand this but I DO look for it.
So, a dominant deserves respect, but a submissive doesn't?

I was just wondering the same thing as well as where the 'place' of complete strangers might be located.

Celeste

That is a very good point! Perhaps a google search so i can put it in my GPS system for when i need to know where to go[;)]

heartcream -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 12:51:58 PM)

i like a good read. if the content is good, i personally dont mind if they say, "this girl", or "W/we" or wutever. some folks who speak proper english and punctuate and all that can annoy the bejesus out of me more.

hopefully the post is legible. i feel sorry for folks who dont really know how to spell or use spell check or whatever but if i can sniff their heart in the post it is no biggie.

for me to cap the Dom is a feeling thing. sometimes in personal mail i will cap because i am feeling it that way. obviously i dont cap properly most of the time. sure if it is a situation where i feel proper caps are called for i cap on. but here in a bdsm site i hardly think i need to worry about it.

if i get mail and He seems to think i need to call Him Master and cap Him, it is an indication to me as to where He is at and i quickly lose interest. i need to know someone, get a feeling for someone before i am going to go in for that sort of distinction in my writing. until then to me he is a he and not a master to me.

Thats true, but the French do a lot of things that are weird and freakish - like kissing with tongues and saying "petite chou chou" and calling the English "Roast Beefs" in response to calling them frogs. They also think we cant cook, which is nonsense......Steak Tartar vs Roast Beef. Er, I think we win.....and then what about the war effort?

Whatever will they get upto next, those frenchies, sex before marriage?

Hell in a handbasket.

GoldStallion -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 1:10:01 PM)

Well, I assume you mean the American Civil War, where you ungratefully attained independence? The French helped you with that? I didnt know that, but as ever I am not going to let ignorance bar me from having an opinion: typical Gallic obtuseness.

They dont want a fight, but then when they do, its on the wrong side! No wonder they dont capitalise "je"! They are, however, very clear about protecting their language and culture, so its easier to like them than not.

I'm wondering about this, but how many people enjoy the use or nonuse of capitalization as a sign of D/s?

I'm really not that fond of it at all. I suppose it's my love of proper spelling, grammar and punctuation that makes me squick when I see it; or the fact that my brain hates reading things with screwy capitalization; or the fact that it reminds me too much of the chat speakers; or that I really don't want my sub to be a total groveling fool (not to mention I point out that particular pet peeve of mine on my profile, and not one message I received since has been properly capitalized).

Hm, what’s your opinion on it?

Pet peeve. I hate it - it makes everything that much harder to read. I'm intelligent enough that I don't need any kind of textual cue to understand who you are talking about. Honestly, I really don't care if you capitalise domme or master either. Do you "capitalise" when you speak? No in my experience, so my definite preference is not to do it, and not to see it done since it just interrupts and disrupts the flow of the text.

This seems rather silly...  Don't capitalize something in text because you don't while speaking.  Then why did you capitalize the first letter of a sentence or the letter "i"?  Do you do that  when you speak?

Yes, generally I do. Most people do if they stop and listen to themselves and follow the change in tone and cadence. Try it, listen to yourself say "Though it happens, I would never do that" - you should hear the emphasis placed on the start of the sentence and on the I.

SteelofUtah -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 2:53:02 PM)

I can see we all feel strongly about how we feel about the use of the Shift Key.

I can respect your decision to do what you wish to do.

I will remain doing as I do.

To the Leather Kitty, I never spoke for all the the leather community and if you read my secondary post to the first comment you would see that.

Yes in the Leather Functions and Workshops I attended High Protocol was maintained and the titles were used because the local community knew each other well. I am sorry what I said seems to have rubbed you wrong but I am curious as to why saying Thank You was a big deal I ALWAYS say thank you it is simply polite.

Perhaps you have read me wrong I was never trying to imply EVER that a sub or a slave were lower or lesser in ANY WAY, I only refer to the speed of knowing how one related to this lifestyle in a simple fashion using a Capped letter.

I think some people see way to far in the way things are typed. it's just a letter! I know who and what I am reguardless of how it is typed, I could really give a s**t less if my name is capped or not, I wonder why it matters so much to some people.

Stop taking life so seriously, noone ever gets out alive!

As Always

I've got no problems with others protocols. To each their own and what ever makes them happy. Being me.. I walk my own road in life.. not ever one elses. Now when I venture into someones chat room... or real time domains... parties.. etc.. and they have protocols.. I follow them.. or stay the hell out.

But on a public open forum. I don't feel I should have to follow anyones protocols but the owners of the site... such as their rules. But for each individual... no I don't walk their lines of protocols on here... and I do not expect them to follow mine. Not that I actually have any....LOL

Babybass -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 3:10:53 PM)

While the use of W/we etc does annoy me, I personally find mispuncuation and mispelling a lot more annoying. However, if what I am reading makes sense then I can forgive! Also I find text speak incredibly annoying and pointless - we are not being charged by the letter!!
Personally, I am very inconsistent in my use of capitals - sometimes my thought pattern gets ahead of me and I forget to capitalise everywhere. I do use a capital when referring to my Master - as that is what I call him and so treat it as any other name.
As in everything else, I say 'to each his own'!

HisCompletely -> RE: Capitalization formalities (10/6/2007 3:14:28 PM)

A letter does not indicate who you are.............whether capitilized or not.
