I know this is going to sound rather strange, and of course this is the polls and other Random Stupidy.....but have you ever been sitting in a room and all of a sudden get a whiff of the scent of flowers or perfume?  It happens to me all the time, and was just wondering if it has ever happened to you.  Its just kind of odd, dont ya think?

I was going to go with poltergeist but brain tumor or migraine works as well.

Yep.  It can be spirits trying to get your attention [or just say 'hi] or just a change in air flow; I go with spirits.

I have had thousands of migraines and I never smell weird stuff.

Unfortunately yes.  Coming from our family it means death.  By the way it has yet to be wrong for me.

So....I'd rather smell cookies baking or something.  Anything other than roses.

Yes, I have experienced this, but not frequently, as you.

In fact, on one occasion, a friend and I both experienced it, together.

I think it is the presence of something or someone incorporeal.

It is true, too, as others have mentioned, that a physical condition can cause one to smell scents not present.  Just to be sure, you might want to find out about that.

To the person who smells burnt toast - please find out about that, too.  Not to unduly alarm you, I think that smelling that, specifically, when it's not present, is a symptom of something that needs checking.

I get that with all kinds of smells, not necessarily just perfume or flowers.  So, yes.

salverosebeauty...I have migraines as well and a certain odd scent (almost like burnt popcorn) is usually the precursor to an oncoming one for me. I've been thoroughly checked out over the years to rule out any other organic reason for it though.

Our brain senses stuff by resiving signals from our input organs (tongue, ears ,olfactory, nerves, etc) these are transmited in the form of electic pulses across the brainscape. Some times when remibering certian things you may feel or smell something that acomanies that memory. Sometime the brain hicups and sends random waves of electrons across the brainscape causeing you to smell or see or hear something that wasn't there. When the brain sends a duplicate signal with a delay on the second a person has what is called dejavu. So basicly it brain fucks up and you get to smell...whatever. I smell birthday cake or gun smoke when ever this happens.

yes, it's happened to me....a very long time ago I had a wonderfully dear friend who alwasy wore Drakkar Noir.  (to this day I love it).

One day I was sitting at home in my living room and I smelled *him* the Drakkar mixed with his personal scent, I briefly thought to myself "I wonder how *he* is doing?".  That evening I learned he had been terribly burned in a trash fire around the same time of day I had smelled *him* in my living room.

Make of it what you will....
