velvetears -> The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 12:23:36 PM)

As i was getting ready for work i stumbled upon a body cream i have not used in a longgggggg time.  It was one my ex loved and i used often when i would go see him.  The scent brough to the surface memories of our time together, and i found myself responding in a physical way (getting aroused), with the combo of scent/memory.  i have thought about him before, obviously i will think about things in my past, but i don't get aroused.  Has anyone ever had this kind of experience with a scent, or maybe it was something else that when linked to a past memory gave that memory some kind of life.

Angel and I both have the same reaction to the smell of baby oil. We use it when we play EVERY time we play, and thats really the only time we ever use it. The smell can put him in my head, or me in his, every time.
For him, its planned, and he has to actually make an effort to be around it for the most part. For me, I work in a store and if I stock the baby aisle, sometimes I get a whiff I hadnt planned. Thankfully, I am not male and no one knows quite what it does to me.

Kiehl's "Forest Rain."  It's the lotion I massaged my ex with.  Luckily it's a Special Edition.  But my ex-roommate loved it so much he went and bought a ton (since it was a special edition).  So I smell it and get wistful (and turned on, lol).

I once took pasrt in a fascinating expeiment whilst majoring at Universisity. it was held in the Psychology department and it was a series of control tests to see which participanys reported they liked the scent of a piece of gauze and which ones they liked the most
salthough I thought I could not smeel any difference conscoiusly i did seem to smile and giggle and say I liked some gauze (for some unknown reason0 better than others....at the de-briefing i was told it was male hormone...........

There are quite a few scents which trigger memories and strong emotions for me.  I don't think it is at all unusual.  The memories and feelings induced by scent run the gamut of the emotional spectrum, too.  For me, at any rate.  YMMV

I think of my mother any time I smell orange sherbet.  She used to buy me a scoop of it every Saturday when we went on our weekly shopping trips.  Old Spice makes me think of when I turned 19 and got my first apartment (my very hunky neighbor wore Old Spice daily).  Oh, and anytime I smell the ocean, I am reminded of a trip I took to Galveston at 2 in the morning.  Good times...

Tigrita -> RE: The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 3:21:59 PM)

Memory centers of the brain are closer to scent processing centers relative to any of the other sensory inputs.  This is why scents triger such vivid memories, more than sound, touch, or sights that remind you of past experiences.  Of course the other senses can triger memories and responses too, but scent is the easiest, because of the structure of the briain.  Who knew, working towards a degree in developmental neuroscience can be useful!

DocRudy -> RE: The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 7:58:43 PM)

I have no sense of smell. [:(]

I've heard such nice things about the experience.

bipolarber -> RE: The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 8:01:13 PM)

I can get aroused via several kink related scents: leather, rubber, hot wax... Currently, my Domme is wearing an essential oil, a scent called "Arabian Wood." It mixes with her natural scent the way fruit and berries mix with that of freshly made waffles. She's given me a small vial of the scent, which I use for those moments when I'm thinking of her, in private. Suddenly, I feel the need to go to the local Waffle House... LOL

murmur -> RE: The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 8:19:33 PM)

just the perfume and the natural smell of my man do it for me...makes my eyes rolls by themselves when i smell him....putting his clothes on for some time are the best when i want to *wear him* during the day [:D]

Thank you everyone for your responses. This i found particularly interesting, i never knew that about the brain structure.  i have had scents evoke memories before but this was a first to  have a scent evoke arousal before i even consciously made the connection to what the scent was and what i associated it with.

i have always had an odd  fondness for the smell of skunks.  weird i know.  my um's - both love the smell of gasoline - they did not get that from me [:'(].

i also associate a certain flowery scent - with precognitive experiences.

sundownhawk -> RE: The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 10:26:49 PM)

Absolutely, scent is a huge memory trigger for me.

CuriousLord -> RE: The Scent of Domination (10/9/2007 11:02:49 PM)

Floridian air.  Maybe it's the pollen, the heat, or perhaps all of that humidity.. but it makes me feel alive again.
