I watched it, and it actually wasn't bad. There was the normal "pony-players are freaks" reaction from some of the characters, but on the whole, it wasn't portrayed as a completely bad lifestyle.

The female agent generally did okay, but her little bit early on about fetishism disconnecting you from the person you're playing with kinda screwed it up.

i wonder if the interconnectedness of all the short-term suspects was an actual observation on the incestuous nature of groups centered on a rare kink, or just lazy writing? This was the first episode i've ever seen of this show.

Yeah the part at the end about how it has to be "bad sex" was a let down. Just promoting the idea that there is really only one acceptable type of sex.

considering the male lead's character is a Roman Catholic with control issues it wasn't surprising he was being an intolerant jerk. (and considering he has a child out of wedlock as well as sex out of wedlock makes him a hypocrite as well)

typical Network "must not offend The Reverend, but it will bring in ratings because it's about kinky sex" story.

but now my wife wants to know I guessed "pony play" 5 minutes into the show....

I like this show...as far as this kind of weekly television shows go; I think it's usually pretty well done.
 
I thought the female agent did a pretty good job of insisting to her male cohort that he was being a little 'stuffy'.  It's true that his is an exceedingly 'straight' character, what surprised me is that hers was so open to fetishes.  Her character is supposed to be somewhat backwards in the social-interaction department.
 
For regular TV...I thought all in all it was a good job.  There was some talk about domination and submission, as well...they kept it 'safe' but considering it was on during the 'family hour'... yeah, I think they did okay.
 
And...I loved the gear!   LOL

I agree, i thought most of the show was actually quite positive.  Bones defended people's right to their own sexuality and even better pointed out that the objectification of people, particularly women happens within "acceptable society" with regularity and encouragement.
Then at the end she is convinced by Booth, mr catholic, that the only true way to "make love", be really connected is through non-kinky, non SM sex and then Bones agrees.  That really irritated me!  But it is network tv at 8 pm and they very well couldn't advocate "alternative lifestyles".
As for the killer being one of the kinksters, it was a crime of passion and hurt.  We all are passionate and can be hurt.
And oh yea, they were so freaking hot!  The men and the women!  YUMMO!!

I'm a huge fan of the show, and the actual book series that the real bones writes. However, I always get annoyed when a writter decides to write about BDSM, and has it portrayed as something that detaches from love as oppose to the intimacy and  love it takes to operate within the BDSM life style in any capacity. It also bothered me that the "good sex" that the "Booth" described could have been applied to the pony players that appeared in the show, but in the end, the over all consensus between the main characters was  lifestylers were somehow wrong in their form of love and affection. I'm even more suprised that the main character didn't see the logic that would arise in a anthropologist when looking at the lifestyle and the settling of  inter-social struggles for dominance and submission... that in itself showed laziness on the writers part.

While i'll have to agree that it was over all a positive representation, it was a lazy and shallow exposure as opposed to what it really is.

For once i'd love to see a show that can hit all the key points of the lifestyle and the type of person that experiences it, rather than concentrating on the cheap shock value attached to the subject matter.

Typical Fox crap but how can you go wrong with a hot woman in a show called BONES.

ha ha i love that show. Though David Boreanaz * famous for his role on Buffy and Angel* is a stuffy catholic on Bones, he always struck me as a man who liked to experiment.

If you have a fairly high speed connection you can go to the major network sites and watch the episodes you missed. Small frames, YouTube quality, but hey... Fox requires some digging around but CBS is easy and given that something important is happening at munch whenever Lady Heather is on CSI it's been a pretty cool innovation.
Bones is a great character, she always takes the unusual to downright strange point of veiw and I couldn't think of a better voice to look at fetish. But I also live in New Orleans and watch K-Ville; the truth of things here (still awful) has to bow to the expectations of the "Leave It To Beaver" TV fantasy. There are always two storys there- the New Orleans one and the cop drama. Look at the Bones episode like that.

I remember Boreanz and Gellar making one of the first direct references to using "safeword" on one of the Buffy episodes... just blew me away when I heard them talk about it.

I watched it and beyond Booth's (Boreanaz's character) opinion I was pretty happy with the portrayal, it turned out to be pretty good. I enjoyed the openess that Bones had on the topic......
