Seen anyone like that around here lately? [:D]

Geeez... you act like I'm all sarcastic and judgemental and stuff... where would anyone ever get that idea from?

and if the wind be paused, or "broken" if you will, would that it be silent...

(edited to add) and innocuous to our senses

I think this was a great thread Termin8or.

It is rather irksome, to say the least, when people try to make text into speech. Text is not speech. It never can be. If you want a spoken conversation, pick up the phone. Meet someone for coffee. Hang around outside a church after a funeral. But I question the effectiveness of trying to have a spoken conversation with pixels: 8/10ths of the information available during conversation just isnt there, isnt that why emoticons have evolved?

The fact is that there are lots of ways of writing that are extremely expressive, that dont require abandonment of some of the rules of grammar, spelling, composition and presentation; which, after all, are there to make written communication easier and clearer. Problem is they require something called effort. And as we are humans thats not always in abundant supply.

Of course there is a different feel to message boards and so they can take some creative change. Innovation is great, but its very different to dumbing down. I prefer the bar to be raised. I think its better for humanity as a whole.

Punchy one liners will never be bettered for impact in my view. But the next best thing is punchy sentences.

And if you have something more to say then maybe it requires paragraphs.

I could type with perfect spelling and perfect grammar.  I could even type with perfect punctuation and perfect spacing; I might even know how to use a punctuation mark you do not.

but i am not writing a freakin college essay...so...i don't...so...deal with it...or don't read my posts...i don't care...i don't really write for you, specifically...

take care...
chelle

I wish I could. Honestly this is a nice thread. Perhaps I will take a class or two...It would be awesome to know how to express myself better in writing. [:)]

See. I didn't pick up on that because I'm am never, ever sarcastic or judgmental and whatnot. Ever. And I'm not ironicacal either.

Babybass -> RE: Paragraphs (10/10/2007 10:00:28 AM)

I just came across this after posting in another thread and then looking at my post and thinking 'opps, i didn't put in any paragraphs!' - so, it is a common error of mine when writing. However, i do believe that i have mentioned this somewhere before, i write, generally, in a stream of consciousness, so oftentimes my posts do appear to flow from one thought to the next with little or no pause. I apologise to those that find it offensive but it is how i think and therefore, when sharing my thoughts, how i write. I will make the exception when writing emails and letters lack of paragraphisation (if thats not a real word i am coining it!!) across two or three pages does tend to hurt the eyes!!

seeksfemslave -> RE: Paragraphs (10/10/2007 11:15:45 AM)

My posts are perfectly risen and constructed confections of the writers'
art.

My social life would be perfect if only the dog would stop ignoring me.

FullCircle -> RE: Paragraphs (10/10/2007 1:20:49 PM)

I don’t mind much but some insist on using small text and long paragraphs meaning I lose where I am and end up reading the same line three times. I lose where I am and end up reading the same line three times. We should all use double spacing because it’s an old trick to pad out assignments.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Paragraphs (10/10/2007 2:48:50 PM)

OCD?
