I think this was a great thread Termin8or.
It is rather irksome, to say the least, when people try to make text into speech. Text is not speech. It never can be. If you want a spoken conversation, pick up the phone. Meet someone for coffee. Hang around outside a church after a funeral. But I question the effectiveness of trying to have a spoken conversation with pixels: 8/10ths of the information available during conversation just isnt there, isnt that why emoticons have evolved?
The fact is that there are lots of ways of writing that are extremely expressive, that dont require abandonment of some of the rules of grammar, spelling, composition and presentation; which, after all, are there to make written communication easier and clearer. Problem is they require something called effort. And as we are humans thats not always in abundant supply.
Of course there is a different feel to message boards and so they can take some creative change. Innovation is great, but its very different to dumbing down. I prefer the bar to be raised. I think its better for humanity as a whole.
Punchy one liners will never be bettered for impact in my view. But the next best thing is punchy sentences.
And if you have something more to say then maybe it requires paragraphs.
