Police pushed their way into a Polish convent Wednesday and evicted about 65 rebellious ex-nuns — arresting the mother superior and a monk who had occupied the complex with them illegally for two years.
The women had taken over the building in a rebellion against the Vatican, which had ordered the replacement of their mother superior, Jadwiga Ligocka."They were disobedient," said Mieczyslaw Puzewicz, a spokesman for the Lublin diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican formally expelled the women from their Sisters of Bethany order last year.
Police arrested Mother Jadwiga and a former Franciscan friar, Roman Komaryczko, who had been living with the nuns, and planned to question them, police spokesman Mariusz Sokolowski said. He would not say what the specific charges were.
A locksmith had opened the gate to the walled convent in the eastern Polish town of Kazimierz Dolny and police in riot gear pushed forward, encountering an onslaught of verbal aggression from some of the former nuns, Sokolowski said

Alum....; check out an old movie called "The Devils". It is about the Catholic church. Might all be fiction, but very interesting.

I really have to start an old movie thread. I have not beeen interested in anything for years, but a while back it seemed that even fictional stories had some roots in real history.

How can you have a holy war ?

I usually agree with this OP, so I have to comment...  And would like a clarification as to the purpose of this post.

When I read the article (bold emphasis Mine), I did not see this anywhere...

quote:

A locksmith had opened the gate to the walled convent in the eastern Polish town of Kazimierz Dolny and police in riot gear pushed forward, encountering an onslaught of verbal aggression from some of the former nuns, Sokolowski said

What I read, and I quote from the same linked source:

quote:

A locksmith opened the gate to the walled compound, and police then pushed their way in and arrested the mother superior, Jadwiga Ligocka, as well as a former Franciscan friar who had locked himself away with the nuns.
Hours later, after mild resistance and insults from the ex-nuns and the intervention of psychologists, about 65 defeated ex-nuns, escorted by policewomen, walked out calmly in their black habits — some carrying guitars, others tambourines or small drums — and boarded buses.

What a difference a few words make.  It sounds like psychologists were even provided to help diffuse any potential situations and assist in what I am sure was a rather distasteful task.

In reading the entire article, I would not  know if I supported the cause or the philosophies of the monk or the ex-nuns.  But I do see that they were illegally occupying church property for a long time, and that the appropriate legal steps were followed to remove them.
Whether I would agree with their "beef" or not, it still did not give them the right to remain on church property.  They could have left long ago and started their own new sect, religion, cult, whatever.
I will not go into any separation of church and state thing, since this did not happen in the US, therefore it doesn't apply.  It seems that all the appropriate measures were taken.  And I rather suspect this is only getting much press time due to the "evil" Roman Catholic Church.  Seems like a rather simple and legally conducted eviction.

So My question would be to Alumbrado:   What violence?  Who was violent and why do you consider it inherent in the system?  On which side of this situation are your sympathies?  For the record, I am dispassionate...*Shrug*

Not being very familiar with Monty Python and all that...
Fortunately I am one who questions...Unnfortunately most others simply nod in agreement and turn it into something else entirely.
