The unemployment rate is at Clinton era levels - AND we have at least 12 Million illegals working in the US - many of whom aren't noble campesino members of the Proletariat from Latin America. Get rid of the illegals and watch wages skyrocket as employers scramble for employees.
Homes are being foreclosed because people made stupid decisions based on an ever rising market that hit saturation, stalled, and left the losers holding the bag for a house with a stupid loan they weren't qualified to be in in the first place.
Gasoline in 1968 was $.30 a gallon. Bread was $.30 a loaf. Gas is now $2.50 a gallon, and bread is $2.50 a loaf. I'd say it is inflation. You may wish that gas is $.30 a gallon still, but it also costs a whole lot more to drill. As in $100,000. a day and more offshore.
And by the way - the evil Oil Companies have a 10% profit margin. About the same as the evil banks, but less than the evil Starbuck's. They make Billions because they spend Trillions. Oil doesn't come from K Mart. People will spend 8 bucks a gallon for Yuppie Water that is drawn from local municipal sources and bottled, and whine about paying $2.50 for oil that had to be shipped all the way from Africa, refined, and shipped to your local gas station.
And whose fault is it, joanus, that the jobs they have don't pay well? If they were qualified for something better (as in well educated or had some job skills) do you think they might make more money? Go to the Gulf Coast and get a job as a roustabout on an offshore rig and you can make more money than you ever dreamed. Go to Wyoming and get a job in construction.
And I think I'd rather not spend that much time in any restroom stall, thank you.
