ORIGINAL: GeorgiaBelle Ok, while I find "pet" to be cute and all, I am just wondering for those who just use it as a term of endearment (as opposed to a status parameter), is that the only nickname allowed in bdsm other than the standard slut etc... I would rather like to think myself as rather unique and would like to have a nickname that is set apart from the zillions of "whatevers" out there. Is this a sign of laziness or lack of creativity or both? Any nickname which Master chooses to use is allowed. There is not a rule book on names, or activities, etc. Master calls me many things, depending on his mood and my purpose at that time. Some are common names, some are unique, and fitting only to me. Each nick name has its own meaning, which is jointly understood. He does occasionally call me pet, and it is an endearing term (i have heard many a vanilla relationship use this nickname endearingly as well). pet, as he uses it for me, tends to be as someone else said, symbolic of the family pet. Loved, loyal, knowing him, sharing in the quiet moments. pet may be the girl who receives a tender stroke of the face, or a playful pat on the head. pet looks at him adoringly, with love in her eyes. To the OP, often if my Master wishes for me to figure something out on my own, i will not receive a reply to a question, either. Perhaps the best thing to do is to write to him about what that term means to you and how it makes you feel. If he feels you are off course, trust that he will correct it. If he does not respond, trust that you have it right.
