So, do you guys have any books that you live by or can claim are really excellent in furthering one's growth in BDSM or preferably being a "Master?"

Thank you,
Master Fiik

"Screw The Roses, Send Me the Throns" is still one of the best books around for top-types and for bottom-types; lost of solid, reliable, timeless information thats easy to understand with lots of great tips. I have gone though a few copies and I still find it usefull and ifnormative even as I have gotten more experience.

Master Onyx,
although you are receiving wonderful BDSM themed books on Mastering from both perspectives if she may also offer another book,

"Don't Shoot The Dog" The New Art of Teaching and Training by Karen Pryor

just to give you a brief synopsis
A groundbreaking behavioral scientist and dynamic animal trainer, Karen Pryor is a powerful proponent of the principles and practical uses of positive reinforcement in teaching new behaviors. Here are the secrets of changing behavior in pets, kids--even yourself--without yelling, threats, force, punishment, guilt trips...or shooting the dog:

The principles of the revolutionary "clicker training" method, which owes its phenomenal success to its immediacy of response--so there is no question what action you are rewarding
8 methods of ending undesirable habits--from furniture-clawing cats to sloppy roommates
The 10 laws of "shaping" behavior--for results without strain or pain through "affection training"
Tips for house-training the dog, improving your tennis game, or dealing with an impossible teen
Explorations of exciting new uses for reinforcement training

enjoy,
sincerely
melanie

Books on leadership, communication, and team dynamics, are good to add as well. John Maxwell is a well known author that many admire and respect. His books are easy to find and give solid advice that can be applied in a variety of situations. More importantly, I'd suggest that you look at yourself and examine your shortcomings. These will only be amplified in a relationship and could create some difficult situations for you both. If you are able to overcome them you'll be better equipped to lead effectively. Remember, the master cannot instill in another something he lacks within himself.

The books mentioned are great some better than others.

But there is only two books that I can't live without:
To Love, To Obey, To Serve by Viola Johnson and Written On The Body by Jeanette Winterson.

"Written" is NOT really about BDSM though but is about love and power exchange and loving someone that gives their all and you in return.  It's sexy, FUNNY as hell, amazing and sad.

Screw The Roses, Send Me The Thorns is still fantastic and we are coming up on the 11th year since Phillip passed on. He passed on in the fall of 1996 right after the book was released and became a major hit in alternative markets. After his passing, it was Molly who's publishing company printed the first addition of "To Love....."

No books will teach you about the headspace of Master/slave but it will certain give you physical guidelines.  What teaches you is your growth in your relationship.

Master has Screw the Roses, which we both really enjoy.

However, i have learned alot about being a slave from reading Dancer of Gor and Kajira of Gor.  Even if one is not Gorean, alot can be learned from the Gor series.  Norman is a profound writer with much insight into natural order.  Again, even if one does not agree with his presented views of natural order, his words provide a good point for debate.  And for one wishing to know more about the state of  being Master or slave, so much can be learned (and felt) by his words.

Best,
Master G's {girl}
