so who decides that one person's idea of bdsm is not bdsm because it's not what they are into?
personally,i enjoy humiliating people who allow me to humiliate them,i enjoy dominating even though am not a pro,why should that make me any less of a Dom?people that have come to me still see me as a Dom,and most importantly,i see myself as a Dom

I like to make fun of, aka humiliate, people that write difficult to read paragraphs on the forums. Is that BDSM? Who cares? It's fun for me.

For me BDSM and D/s are two totally separate entities.

That's unfortunate, because then you are using a different definition from pretty much everyone else.

D/s is a *part* of BDSM.  It's what the 'DS' part can stand for.

BDSM:  Bondage/Discipline Domination/Submission Sadism/Masochism.  No?
No. I see things much as CJ sees it. D/s and M/s are whole different entities then B&D/S&M. In my eyes, throwing them together is the reason so many people have a hard time finding partners.

Then maybe people shouldn't be throwing an acronym around that stands for one thing, when they actually mean another thing.

Look, I'm not saying it should be grouped together. I'm just pointing out that BDSM - the acronym - stands for all of those things.  Three different entities.  By being obtuse about the word, you just add onto the confusion.  It would be like me putting 'bisexual' in my profile, while actually not wanting to have sex with other men, and then arguing about the definition of bisexual.

And if anyone asks me, I clearly tell them that Ds is NOT a part of "bdsm."

A lot of WIITWD isn't "bdsm."  That's why I use the lovely words "kinky" and "relationship dynamics."  I really think those cover it far better than just an acronym.

I think D/S is part of BDSM, but its erotic/sexual dominance and submission and not the same thing as dominance/submission in the context of a relationship dynamic.

From my understanding, the whole line of thought regarding D/S and M/S being separate is a relatively new phenomena. A lot of people I know, particularly Leather folk, don't talk about D/S solely as a relationship dynamic, but rather as erotic power exchange between two people through S/M and bondage.

And to the OP...nice post. Now repeat it three times to make sure you feel a good dose of reassurance.

Oh, the irony. The irony!!

I didn't criticise him for his kink in the prior post, in fact he never actually stated what the post was about, which was what I was trying to get him to say both then and now.

so who decides that one person's idea of bdsm is not bdsm because it's not what they are into?  Nobody.  Your kink is your kink, theirs is theirs.

Personally, I think that if you think you are a Dom and you find a sub that thinks you are a Dom and you get along well with that, then that makes you her Dom.  Who cares what others think or say?  Everyone is entitled to their opinion...if it doesn't match yours, so what?  If you identify with being a Dom and enjoy bdsm and are comfortable with that, go with it.  Your interpretation is the one that counts and everyone else's opinions are just those - opinions only.  No one can say if you're right or wrong.

Well, first you have to pay $24.95 for the official DOM badge, or no one will take you seriously.  But if you really want to look legit, I suggest the upgrade package ($49.95) which includes a scroll from DOM University to mount on the wall of the dungeon.  For an additional fee you will also get the DOM handbook complete with a thesaurus on current terms to impress your friends and colleagues.
And wait... there is more!
You can also take the Master course for 99.95 which allows you to direct your studies into specialties, such as humiliation, degradation, breath, fire or other extreme activities, and getting people to sit at your feet.
This course offers free scholarships if your name begins with master.

i dunno... you may see yourself as a "dom" but then again a lot of serial killers claim to be doing "gods work"...

this lifestyle has more than its share of whackadoos that gravitate to it... that kind of statement that you made kind of implies that you are in this for the abuse and that you may have been one of those "its fun to set kitties on fire" kinda kids

It's the same question we all hear... doesn't matter if it's from some vanilla person, a BDSMer, or any of the GLBT folk... Everyone's worried about the "am I normal?" question. Sometimes it's phrased as "Can I call myself this or that?" or "What do you guys think of me if I say I'm into X,Y,Z?"  People worry about acceptance within the larger community.

Rest assured, boss. You're a Dom.

Dave,

I'm guessing you meant to reply to someone else, since the quote isn't mine. Either way, I'd like to invite you to choke to death on your own inflated sense of self worth.

Why not, LA? This newbie is genuinely curious.

I think we got it - you see yourself as a dom - the people you meet see you as a Dom - so I would like to officially declare you a Dom!
Go forth into the world and humiliate - you are now a Dom
