Mercnbeth -> Aging Gracefully... (10/15/2007 9:13:26 AM)

This letter was sent to the principle's office after an elementary school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An old lady had received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize, and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all human kind. Forward to anyone you know who might need a lift today!

Dear Faculty and Students,

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens' luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at an Assisted Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it's nice to know someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady.

My roommate is 95 and always had her own radio. Before I received this one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping.

The other day, her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of little pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I said FUCK YOU!
Thank you for that opportunity.

Sincerely,
Agnes

Sounds like something I'd say. Like they say, "what goes around, comes around." Glad she had the courage to tell her roommate that.......lol. Sure hope I have that kind of courage at that age.

Heh and  I wodner if the two ever got in a fight and tried to beat the hell out of each other.

Although I think it would be a no contest. At that age you would have to be pretty fit and most likely not in a place like that to even throw a punch.

SweetDommes -> RE: Aging Gracefully... (10/18/2007 1:25:06 AM)

You'd be surprised.  I didn't ever work in a nursing home for long, but the brief periods that I was there, I saw the residents bite each other, whap each other with their canes, run over each other with their wheelchairs, and then there was the guy who went around hitting people with his cast (he had a broken wrist).

Remains me of the cane fights I would have with a Blind friend of mine. I am visually impaired myself and went to a school for that. So that is where it happened. I must admit with my own knowledge that whatever limits you, adaptation and accomadation are key.

I want to be a cantanekerous old biddy whizzing around in my wheelchair giving everyone hell and having complete flashbacks of some of my *fun times* telling anyone who will listen all the intimate details....and not even  remember it five minutes later... well maybe not remembering it, but just not giving a damn about the shocked looks.
Ive worked in many geriatric, elderly, aged, retirement homes and units in hospitals over the years and had a blast with  many of the "wrinklies" as they were fondly called. From war stories to indiscretions, sad stories to wonderful ones and everything inbetween. SO much knowledge and memories of days gone by.
It more than  made up for the poo flinging fights which broke out with alarming regularity
This story made me chuckle thanks Mercnbeth
hmmmmm my daughter says im already a cantankerous old biddy

smirkles im half way there.....

Saratov: omg ya so funny lol.

halftimers? aaaha

reminds me of my mom in her early stages of alziemers.  Someone had left a ciggy burning in an ashtray and she picked it up to smoke it.  We told her 'omg Mom, you quit smoking 15 years ago'.  She said 'omg, thank god, it tasted funny and besides I'd likely forget it like the last person and burn these bitties down' lol

I think it was Dave Barry who wrote that growing old was a choice between garnering wisdom, becoming a wise old pillar of the community, full of memories and knowledge and gently guiding and encouraging those who come after you, and becoming a crusty old fart.

I know which way I'm leaning. [8D]
