Does anyone have any hints on how to be able to deal with kneeling for longer periods of time. I am a larger slave and think this does make it harder then some smaller girls but I am working on losing weight. I have been practicing kneeling in various ways and while I can kneel with my head touching the floor for as long as need be kneeling straight up hands resting on knees starts hurting fairly quickly.

Is there anything I can do to extend the amount of time I can do this for or is it just practice and work at it?

hmm i just practice a little more .. i know i can kneel longer if i'm kneeling up on a pillow so it doenst hurt as much .. but i find for me if i am kneelign i just kneel  back all the way so my butts touching my heals and that i can hold longer or my feet out to the side so my butts on the ground ..those i can hold longer if i am on my knees my knees start hurting so i kneel back like that takes the pressure off them ..

If it makes your back muscles burn, then I'd keep practicing; alot of times, you'll be using muscles one typically doesn't use very often in everyday life.  If it's some sort of joint pain, however, it's probably best to avoid loading that joint too much.  Not professional medical advice, just my $0.02...

Well, I have bad knees so I don't do a lot of kneeling (and never did).  A simple, "I'm sorry Sir, but staying in this position for more than X minutes will cause irreparable damage" seems to work.  Unless, of course, you simply want to kneel.

i had knee surgery (broke a kneecap twice, had to have it surgically repaired the second time, and have adhesions removed) about 3 years ago.  i cannot bear any pressure on it at all.

Daddy doesnt care.

You don't say if you have a thick floor pillow to start with. If you do and that isn't sufficient, then maybe a kneeling bench would help.

I'm 44 and kneeling dosnt come easy to me at times either..sad fact im getting old. Have you thought about allowing the pressure to be taken by your thighs and bottom and not so much your knees. Dang, this is hard to explain, let me see if i can, take the normal stance of kneeling then slide your bottom left  or right to the floor, (whatever is more comfortable for you) your knees will still be bent but you wont have as much pressure on them.  I hope i explained this for you to understand. I hope my two cents worth is of some help.

I haven't personally dealt with this yet, but I do know from my weightlifting class tha the teacher made a very firm point that if you have bad knees (or the potential for bad knees) that you shouldn't bend them deeply and put a lot of weight on them.
In class, this is deep lunges with extra weight on your back.
However you could be imitating this with your prolonged kneeling.

I would heed the advice of others above and find a way to do something other than kneeling.  Bad knees can make old age a real drag.

i have dealt with it for years, the last time i knelt for a long period of time i was litterally shaking, i tried shifting my weight, my knees were killing me, my back was killing me, and my ankles hurt like hell too ( which that one is normal because i have very weak ankles from multiple sprains) but anyways yeah so i was shaking and my Owner thought it was due to being turned on but that wasn't the case, when we were finished with what we were doing he wanted me to stand and i couldn't.  I litterally had to lay down on my stomach and unbend my knees, he thought i was being disobedient but i litterally couldn't stand up he had to help me and to think i was going to be punnished (now that wouldn't have been fair at all)

I can't kneel for long a period of time either. I either sit with my legs crisscrossed or  sit side saddled. The Dom that I am currently seeing doesn't have a  problem with that and understands that it causes me pain when I kneel.

Interesting, I think I will have to design a little mushroom kneeling stool. Seems to be a common problem with older bottoms.

Kneeling for a long amount of time, about 5 minutes tops,  is also hard for me due to a back injury and messed up knees from cheerleading in high school.  i explained to my trainer/ possible Master about it and He accepts it. He is most thoughtfull when it comes to things like that.  It is my belief that if a Master truly cares, He will understand and try to work with you and help you find substitutes for kneeling, if not then i personaly believe that He is not a real Master and not worth the time.  i get to sit on the floor on my bottom or lean back on my honches when need be.

My boy finds it quite painfull in his ankles too when he kneels.  The 1st ever training we did together especially when we were at our long distance phase was to have him kneel every night for me and eachnight made it last longer by around a minute.  I never pushed him too far with it though and now he kinda likes it when it hurts lol.  I think now he can last upto 13 minutes which is way better than when we started.

Im only 27, but I cant kneel for long periods of time either. I damaged my right knee when I was on the wrestling team in high school and had to have surgery on it, then I dropped a car off the back of a wrecker onto my left knee when I was working for a tow company in Georgia and its pretty fucked up too. Sometimes kneeling on a thick cushion can extend the amount of time I can kneel, but usually I just sit on my bottom with my legs wrapped around his. It works well for us and he knows when I am sitting in that postion it is my way of kneeling for him....

Actually, being scrawny doesn't help. The lack of any sort of padding on the knees themselves means that all the weight is pinching the flesh between the hard floor and the hard patella (kneecap).  Having something to kneel on is easier, even if it is only carpeting.

For strengthening the muscles used, try yoga. It helps with strenthening those muscles that allow you to balance. i have to admit to laziness when it comes to exercise... yoga gives a good workout without having to really break a sweat. *grin*  The class i went to had women of every shape and age and each one was concentrating on what they were doing... no one had to feel self-concious. Yoga is great for strength, flexibility and balance. It can also be done at home. There are several good DVDs out there -- Rodney Yee is especially good.

As a former gymnist turned older slave, I am well acquainted with painful knees and kneeling.

The best advice I can give you is to be aware of what's possible and what's not possible for your body to withstand. I can't stress strongly enough how much I disagree with 'practice' when it comes to kneeling. The temporary benefits of longevity are outweighed by the long term effects of repetitive strain. Damage due to continous kneeling isn't just something that 'can' happen, it's something which is 'likely' to happen, especially in the overweight.

Trying different positions to find the ones which are most comfortable and least damaging to your body is one thing.. to continually practice kneeling is inviting the cumulative effects to damage them in ways which are serious and often unrepairable.

Okay, mommy mode turned off .  Now, on to ways which actually answer the questions you've asked.

Pillows are okay, knee pads are better.

Apply the RICE technique when you are in pain. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. You should be able to google it for specifics.

As soon as you feel 'any' sort of discomfort, stop! Don't try to grin and bear the pain. The pain is your body telling you to knock it off, now or you're going to regret it later. Listen to your body.

Take deep, even breathes to oxygenate your blood as you kneel. This will help increase energy and lessen fatigue.

Avoid cards and drink lots of water.

Google and print out an article on knee injuries and give it to any prospective Master who wants you to kneel in some Beauty Series 24 hour fantasy. Hitting them right between the eyes with a dose of reality often times makes them see the light.

Makes your choices, live with the choices you make.

aside from bad knees nadu and kneeling is never supposed to be comfertable, what most well trained subs/slaves do is practice practice practice untill they learn to block it out, that can be kneeling for hours or as some one i meet he had to kneel on uncooked rice for a few hours

Oh, well, aside from dying, standing on train tracks and letting yourself get run over is a hell of a rush, too. "Most" well-trained subs and slaves don't 'practice, practice, practice'. Only the ones with whom you're acquainted, which I'd bet dollars to donuts ain't that many.

I also have bad knees ( Inflamed cartlige) that flares up if i have to kneed for extended periods of time.  Kness get all sore and swollen  its not fun.  I uesd to have to kneel but at least i got a pillow to do it on.  My Master is not all that big on kneeling so he does not require it of me.  He does not want me to be in pain and limping around.  Tell your Dom about the problems you are having with him maybe he does not realize how hard it is on you.
