This is going to be my worst hijack on history. I apologize, but it might be worth it. Because this is in the humor section as well, I just see it as less inappropriate. Now people are talking about urban legends and stuff, about what is a true story and what is not. While this is a valid point, what about the other side of it ? Here is the thing, this little story really could've happened, like before IFF. And even if it did, the recantment we may have heard or read might well be fake, even if it really did happen at some point in time. But the real point is, if it is false, who wrote it ? Same question goes for all the people who write the jokes that we bring in here. I mean I am not really all that bad, I have my moments. But I have come up with an impromptu sidesplitter only perhaps a dozen times or so in my 47 years. But some people come up with it every day. What exactly is their form of creativity that enables them to do that ? I mean I have done it, but I am really not that good. Give you an example: Rifraff: What is that mop doing there ? " [this is in a carpeted room, I just happened to put it there earlier] Termy : "I don't know what you are hallucinating, but it ain't doing shit". Humor is based on the unexpected. I read that somewhere and I think it may be true. The more unexpected the punchline, the better. The effect may be understood by thinking of it twisting the mind. Everything affects us, and if we apply principles of matter to these effects, we might get somewhere. When you are hanging out with your kids, there can be tension, but in that environment you want to stretch out. The tension is almost welcome. When you are at work, the force against you could be described as compressional. Now in most materials and metals, compressional and tensile strength are equal, but I now submit that this is not true of the human mind. I also allege that humor, that is when you get it and laugh, that is a different aspect. I would describe it as a torsioinal force. I actually do not want to imply that humor twists your mind, but I think the effect is similar. What say you ? T
