I just thought I would mention this, as I have just read in a local history periodical, the memories of a lady who was a child in the blitz of world war 2, her experiences; An interesting report on the every day nitty gritty of life, the sights and horrors, but mention was made about the weather, I will quote..... "...We keep hearing now of Global Warming- I wish they would make up their minds what they consider the norm. I can remember freezing winters when the ice was so thick on the inside of the windows we would climb out of bed and redress in our socks and underwear as once the hot water bottle cooled we froze.These were often followed by very hot summers but we also had wet summers and mild winters-so what has changed?......" Yes, what is the norm?

About twenty years ago, I used to be able to drive on a local lake every winter, as we would have record-breaking numbers of days in a row where the temperature never got above zero. But I suppose I'm to believe that was normal... Driving on a perfectly smooth frozen lake was fun. I'd get going over a hundred, and then go into a slide... I taught my (then) girlfriend how to drive on ice that way. Me, no one could catch me if we were driving on icy roads. How do young people ever manage to reach their forties, anyway?

Used to love the old rear wheel drive cars. I knew how to do it. Only wound up in a ditch once. In a car like that you just keep replacing the rear tires, I didn't know the fronts were bald. Anyway, about the climate. Over the years of my life I think the seasons have gotten more extreme, colder winters and hotter summers. I also think the daylight is brighter but there is something different about it. I used to love the sunlight, but now I seek shade. Is this a difference in me or the actual conditions ? Could I simply be less tolerant when it comes to environment ? I really do not know, and I also do not know if even being real, is it just a natural cycle, or is it man induced ? It could just be the way things are on this planet. Some years are better than others, period. We could all be full of shit, really. But then we might not. T

It's not about finding "the norm." There is no norm. The climate has always fluctuated, and the earth will certainly carry on well enough if temperatures spiral completely out of control and make human life impossible. That will simply become the new norm--but we won't be around to witness it.
