Latex fetishists, I wore my first latex skirt last night and it looked fabulous, but I am afraid I'll ruin it if I don't care for it properly. I read and followed scrupulously detailed instructions on how to care for it. This morning, I saw that despite my best efforts, there are small dried shiny spots of the lube I used to shine it up. I thought I washed every inch of it with mild soap, inside and out and blotted it dry and applied talcum. Will leaving these spots degrade the latex more quickly? Do I have to go back again and try to get every spot off? They are dry now and seem quite stubborn.

Hello fellow rubberist!

In my experience, leaving a little of the polish/shiner on isn't a bad thing per se. If you got most of the crud (body oils/smoke residue/dirt etc) off from the previous night's debauchery. . . .that is good enough. I can't get every speck of polish off either. If I know I'm going to wear something like in a week or so. I might not even wash it til that day because it is easier (for me) to store "dirty" (then I don't have to talc it up to prevent it from sticking to itself etc) and just have it washed the day I'm going to wear it again.

This is just what works for me. I've pulled out gloves and stockings that I've neglected for months that have had polish on them and they seem to be fine. I don't recommend such neglect. . .but they don't seem to have any obvious damage. I wouldn't do that with my more expensive pieces though

Here is a helpful hint. . .one of the EASIEST ways I found to get the outside clean is to actually wear it into the shower and wash as though you are cleaning yourself. If you have a rubberist partner. . .it makes for a lot of shower fun. . . plus I think you clean it a lot more effectively because you are wearing it and can get every nook and cranny.

Rubbery Hugs!

Princess

There are some instructions in detail on the international association of rubberists forums on how to chlorinate your rubber gear.

It is a very delicate process.. but has kept all of my gear in top shape, and no more greying over time.. woo hoo!
