No debt. I've got a modest house that's paid for and I paid cash for my car too. I suppose my life may seem better if I went into debt to get a bigger house or fancier car, but I don't care enough about that having that stuff (or impressing people with status symbols) to do it. I'm far happier not being in debt than I would be if I had more "stuff" along with debt.

no debt. bought the house at the age of 22 paid it off in 10 years, buy cars etc cash. i prefer money to be in my pocket

It is interesting how many people are waking up to the debt scam. Fancy isnt freedom or happiness. THe best happiness is not being a slave to the banks. All those sky scapers are build with someones cash.

I've a tiny chunk of debt left on my car which will be done by the end of the year- but I think that's good debt as a younger person because it helped establish a credit rating and is something I could use more of. After this though, other than the typical paying all regular monthly balances, I don't intend to have any significant debt for awhile. I am hoping my car will last at least five years to save up to buy the next one with no or far less debt that this one (and if not the five years, then at least I'll have some chunk saved to cover the necessity of another one). I honestly have no desire to buy a house. I'm quite comfy in my apartment and all that it provides to me. I know people go on and on about equity and owning stuff- but most often they are just as much in debt as they are out, and they have to deal with regular upkeep of their property. I'm just not into that and find that saving into 401(k), IRAs, and other investment portfolios gives me the feeling of security I need. I'm very debt averse and live a lifestyle that sometimes means I don't have the "fun" stuff, but also means I don't have the worry or anxiety of paying bills.

Money's power. Life, really. It represents resources- resources that could be.. -feeding the starving -finding cures for the sick -inventing medicines for the incurable -building homes for the homeless -inventing new technologies for us all -cleaning up the environment -improving nutrition and food quality, cleaning up drinking water and, ultimately.. -allowing everyone to have what they need so that there's no more need to fight over it. Having money means being able to.. -know where your next meal's coming from -get the healthcare needed for you and your family -take vactions and relax with friends and family -have a comfortable roof over your head When it comes right down to it, having plenty of money doesn't outright ensure happiness, but it really helps.

In a minute someone will post something saying that debt is an unproven concept, another will discuss at long length the meaning of the word debt and someone else will say that just because you are into this debt doesn’t mean everyone is. I’m in relative debt: i.e. I’m financially stable, and in the black but I’m going to have to work until I’m dead to live until I’m dead.[8\|]

No debt whatsoever. Paid off house 2 yrs ago. Paid it off in 12yrs on a 30yr fixed. Put every extra cent on the principle for 12 yrs and didn't buy bullshit items I didn't need like toys,etc. All toys/vehicles paid for and I didn't buy them unless I could pay for them upfront. Never have owned a credit card (that's half the secret). Best secure feeling in the world......

I am in debt, yup. I am slowly working my way out from under it and I am almost there. Being in debt affects my quality of life, in the fact that most my money is already spoken for, with bills like rent, and internet, and now any spare cash I have after that is spent on debt reduction, and I am almost broke every month. I feel frsuterated by the lack of milage my money gets, being in debt, and I've learned I have to stop being so generous when Ic an't afford to be. I am not in debt but I am on disability…agent orange and arthritis put me where I am now. My income dropped by 2/3’s almost over night. I am lucky that I had my house and vehicle paid off. How do I feel?…My future terrifies me…will I be able to pay for meds…insurance…taxes and still be able to enjoy life? Will I be able to work again? Will I be able to keep my Internet connection…lol… It is no fun and I see no light at the end of the tunnel. But the above only gets me down when I have to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches instead of steak. I can take it Butch
