I prefer to read about these things in a profile so I know beforehand if there's basic compatibility or not. I'm into bondage, not pain so I automatically read profiles before responding to emails and sent back thanks but no thanks at the most to sadists who emailed me. Bondage tops though got more consideration since I already knew our kinks matched.

Yes I believe it is, as well as discussing it in person and/or via the phone.

I hope my posting here isn't inappropriate, as it's a "Ask a Master" & I'm very much a submissive creative bottom. If it is inappropriate, please forgive me.

If we meet on a BDSM site, I find it highly appropriate and not at all putting the cart before the horse. Granted, first I like to find out if we are compatible intellectually and in the vanilla world, cause I'm not here just for the beating & f**king donchaknow. If it seems that we are compatible, then I think discussing kink compatibility is very important. I mean, hate to find out too much later that my hard limits are His be all/end alls & visa versa.

Also, I find that sitting and discussing/sharing our checklists with my new friend is a very pleasurable/humiliating (good kind) experience.

Actually, I think chihuahuas have hair, but in all honesty I've never fucked one.

I'm very much in favour of checklists. I think they are a good  way of establishing basic compatibility before taking things further. I normally send my checklist so that sub/slave can check that she is ok with it.  I also prefer her to fill in one too, although if she is  inexperienced and doesn't know her limits it is not always possible.

If I am talking with someone the main thing I would do would be not to force anything but at the same time get them to think to change the pace a little.

But the question I have is "What are you wearing" and that is probably the most boring question to ask. But meh, it get's answers.
