“It appears the White House has denied a congressional committee access to scientific information about health and global warming, McCally said in a statement Wednesday. "This misuse of science and abuse of the legislative process is deplorable.”
Most notably, he noted, was removal of the statement that “CDC considers climate change a serious public health concern.”

I guess I shouldn't have been shocked when I read this, but I was. How are we supposed to know things if they aren't allowed to be aired or spoken??

This is information that has been gathered and researched for a reason, it verifies things but also may give us the hope for changing things. But what hope is there if no one can know about it?
Sad & confused.

Hilarious - another smear story on the far-left MSNBC web site, based on the alleged testimony of someone who won't even show his or her face, and it's taken seriously by some people.

I would have gone into sales if I had known that it could be so easy!

It amazes me the number of people who simply cannot grasp the thought that we have the ability to alter the envoronment.....However, I am never amazed by the small thoughts that keep on being emanated by those small minds.

Hmm ,I don`t know about that...

Sounds like something that the bushies would do.

There was that story some years ago, about how NASA scientists had their reports altered/edited, by WH officials.

Anyone surprised?

Anyone surprised that neo-cons would get defensive and start the cry-baby act?

....so it's ok to smear a report from an anonymous source just because its anonymous? Pot-kettle-black? Why not find out if the report is true before dismissing it outright? Or would that be too dangerous?

Like all them "Progress Reports" out of Iraq, citing "A source at..."

Seriously, Bush LIED you into invading and occupying Iraq. You think lying to you about anything else is going to keep him up at night?

Any "anonymous" hit peice coming from a far-left website should obviously be taken with a pound of salt.

....ok, some salt may be indicated.......but that doesn't mean that it isn;t true. Just that it has an agenda. i'm sure you'd be the first to agree that the same is true of right wing sources, or any source with an agenda.....which quite frankly is all of them. However what you seem to think is healthy skepticism reads like outright rejection. A rejection that you don't seem to apply to those right wing sources with equivilant depth of agenda. Is it possible that the WH doctored a report that contradicts the official line? Is it possible that someone who wanted to blow the whistle on that may fear for their career? If the answer to those questions is yes, then outright rejection of the story is premature.

Take comfort in this thought.. the politicians, Bush and his cronies will suffocate, burn and starve like the rest of us will.

Sadly, this is absolutely nothing new for this administration. Just a few months ago Bush's own ex-Surgeon General of the United States testified before Congress about all the interference and silencing he'd gotten from the White House on any number of public health issues (generally to hush up anything that the religious "right" didn't want known). There are always going to be exaggerated accusations that get thrown around in our political discourse, but the notion that this Administration has been hostile to the core toward science is sadly not one of them. This is truly going down as one of the darkest 8 years ever in our country's history.

Makes me wonder what he will do to silence his daughter Jenna, who is now publicly writing about what a farce this "abstinence-only" crap is.

Here's a bit about what Owner59 is talking about. The administration has been censoring its own scientists on global warming for quite awhile.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0131/p01s04-uspo.html

More than 120 scientists across seven federal agencies say they have been pressured to remove references to "climate change" and "global warming" from a range of documents, including press releases and communications with Congress. Roughly the same number say appointees altered the meaning of scientific findings on climate contained in communications related to their research.

True.
Conversely I wouldn't trust anything the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said about "free-trade" being "good" for the country or the American People either.
Far left liberalism (is) a disease but so is far right capitalism.

I don't know why anyone bothers. There are two types of people, those of us that have decided to think for ourselves, and those who have decided that they are right and everyone else is wrong(left, right, doesn't matter). i feel sorry for those fools who will believe anything just because it fits their personal agenda, no matter how shakey or outlandish the report is.

Politesub53 -> RE: White House 'Eviscerated Report' On Global Warming Health Issues (10/24/2007 5:18:04 PM)

The answer to much of this, and in my view the reason the US invaded Iraq, is the petrodollar. While Oil is traded in Dollars worldwide, America benifits, the rest of us have to buy Dollars, through buying goods, to pay for oil. Its not in the administrations favour to stop people using oil.

People, lay off.  They just tried to make the text easier for the American people to read and understand.
