I thought this was an interesting article...a little on the fluffy side, but interesting nontheless.

Her whole premise is faulty.  There's no reason to have to hide your talents to get an alpha male.

And I like alpha males.  *shrug*

I will not argue her point or the fact there are people that live the way she describes some younger couples. The fact though is forget this life and just look at all the couples you know and do the math. What is the percentage of couples together in which the male at the time was not either equal or higher to the female in socio and economical status or at least believed to be on the path of being equal or higher when they got together? Then add all these power women when the children come they then scale back their careers. The fact is while the percentage of true alpha females for the duration of the relationship based on how the author defined alpha and not how we normally define it is still a very small percentage when not just taking a snap shot but instead looking at the movie.

Read any personal ad both on this site and vanilla ones and you will see almost the exact same thing in most women’s profiles. Most point out the fact they are looking for an outgoing person with ambition in their life. These traits are attractive to us and most men who have them may settle for equals but are not going to be betas, again based on the author’s definition.

Makes more sense for one person to have a less demanding job instead of both of them working 60 - 80 hours a week while a nanny raises the offspring. If she's a Type A and he's not, and they're both fine with that, it makes perfect sense.

It only doesn't work if the one who is the main earner holds that over the other person's head. Doesn't matter if the main earner is male or female either, the money must be considered ours, not mine. Otherwise resentment builds.

It is true that some men prefer less intelligent women. Years ago, I conducted an experiment on an alpha male. When I showed intelligence, he only liked me as a friend. When I acted dumb, he totally fell for me. I've also talked to men who swear they can't stand ditsy women. I think it depends on the man.

Sometimes you just want someone you don’t have to try to impress, someone that doesn’t try educating you about the benefit of toothbrushes sourced from recycled toothbrushes. You can’t be intelligent all the time, sometimes you like to have simple fun.

I wasn't saying that men were not attracted to women less intelligent than they.  I'm just saying that a smart woman doesn't need to dumb herself down to find an Alpha.  There are smart Alpha men out there afterall.

That article is shit. The essay is full of stupid generalities about social life that may or may not fit your circumstances - we are on an alternative lifestyles forum here, yeah? It takes all kinds to make a world.

That said, I think I can explain the problem with the author in question. She's full of herself and rude. So she speaks five language - ooohhhh, ahhhhhh. Who gives a shit? Her problem on her date was that she ignored her companion to have a conversation with another man in a language her date did not understand. She did not outshine her suitor, she was rude to him. Maybe she should fixate on Marco, the restaurateur who speaks her beloved Italian. But guess what? I bet Marco doesn't want a rude asshole for a companion either.

Instant karma: telling the whole of the U.K. why no one should date you.

You can't have a healthy relationship if you don't admit reality.  If you are talented, your talents aren't, and shouldn't be left by the wayside simply because you want to find a partner.  The only type of man a woman will find by doing that are the kind that can't appreciate anyone for who they are if it risks them being out of the spotlight.  It's not a worthwhile trait to foster in anyone regardless of gender.

Be who you are.  Be honest.  Don't go to one extreme or the other, either downplaying or overly bragging about what you can do.  Be secure in who you are and what you can do and you're well on your way to a much healthier relationship.

Nice fantasy, but it's a bunch of crap, IMO. Nobody wants a non-alpha male- Alpha Females just have higher standards for their Alpha Males.
