Wait 'til you get to the really crazy stuff in part II...  Might want to put saran wrap over your keyboard.

what they are going to award bush with the nobel peace prize?

No, no, no!!  That's only for the true fuck-ups, like Carter.  Get it straight!! [8D]

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that’s cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.

   Will the suffering never end???

(You can laugh, or you can scream.  I've made my choice about this one.)

Come on, Rich. You know that nothing positive has happened in Iraq.....[;)]

Nope, it's just that the Sectarian Cleansing is just about done.

All the Sunnis have been killed or driven out of the Shia areas.

Likewise, all the Shias have been killed or driven out of the Sunni Areas.

So, we're still at 17%. A complete and total failure of Bush's Policy and the Surge Strategy.

17%? That's nice. You couldn't take polls under Saddam's regime though,

That's not a poll. That's the Iraqi SCORE of achievement of goals set IN US LAW. 17 out of 100 was their score.

Failure.

I understand it's in your interest to ignore the complete failure of Bush's policy, but you cannot spin a score of 17% as anything but.

That doesn't magically mean the occupation hasn't been one long string of incredible fuck-ups.

World War II was one long string of incredible fuck ups too. HISTORY has been one long string of incredible fuck ups. So, what's your point? That everything should always go perfectly?

Yeah, the U.S. certainly fucked-up the occupations of Japan and Germany, eh? What with the failure to rebuild their infrastructures and all the money going into that disappearing, the loss of 1,000's more American soldier's lives during the OCCUPATIONS than during the actual war...

Seriously, what is your point? "Well, things aren't going well. Sometimes they don't. C'est la vie! Why should anyone be held accountable?" Is that your argument?

Ask the schoolgirls getting raped on Okinawa these days how wonderful the US Occupation of Japan has been.

Islamofacists?

i just about choked on my beer! LOL

Glad you got a laugh.

But seriously, that's what I would call those that use the Islamic religion as a reason to institute a repressive regime.

What do you call the Christians doing the same thing in the USA?

Even if I were to ask one of Okinawa's unfortunate victims of our military's lax screening policies what she thought of the U.S. occupation of Japan, she'd probably laugh at me and call me a stupid American for thinking that the current American presence in Japan constitutes an 'Occupation of Japan'. As would anyone who actually endured the occupation of Japan. Either way, I fail to see how an emotionally wounded 20-something is supposed to provide some great insight. If you need proof that the occupation was a success (despite the hardships endured by the Japanese people), you only need remember how scared shitless the right-wingers were of Japan during the Japanese asset price bubble.

It's funny that those on the left here in the United States would seem to agree with those on Japan's far-right. Most Japanese prefer the presence of the United States to the thought of Japan remilitarizing. For starters, 2 billion annually is a bargain compared to the cost of developing and funding a nation's own military, it means they don't need to worry about their loved ones going to war, and they don't have to deal with China invading Taiwan or any of the crap North Korea would pull if the United States withdrew from the Pacific theater.

If you find Christians in the US doing the same thing as what you find Muslim fanatics doing in other nations, sure.

I do debate those that argue for social repression.  But why are we back to bashing Christians and the US?  Weren't we talking about Iraq and the biased media?

LotusSong -> RE: More bad news from Iraq (10/25/2007 2:21:51 PM)

Could it be that so many have been killed and the population so depleted that there just that many left to die?

What it means is that war solves nothing and we don't learn from the past.

To say war solves nothing says you don't understand the complexities of what people deal with.  With many wars, to allow evil and horror to continue and do nothing is worse than fighting.  Appeasement and pacifism are worse than useless, they destroy lives.

Who decides what constitutes evil and horror, and therefore invasion?

What if I decide you're evil and, thus, take it upon myself to invade you? What then?

If war solved anything, we would have only needed one.  WWI= "the war to end all wars".  followed WWII.. followed by WWIII (now)

Wars always leave someone pissed and determined enough to start another one to get even.

You are making it sound like any solution could be long term.  It can't be.  It only takes one generation to undo any sort of hard won peace.

Then obviously you and I would have a war and fight (because I wouldn't appease you or give into your demands).  And one would win, or we'd have a treaty.  What's the point?  People have to use their judgement.  You have to use yours even if I disagree with it at times.

I'm just glad you're not King of whatever nation you reside in.  [:D]

I don't think you can discuss Policy and Strategic responses to Religious Fundamentalist Nutjobs without recognizing that the REAL THREAT isn't Al Qaeda, but really people like Eric Rudolph and Tim McVeigh and even Ted Kaczynski ( If you consider the hermit, anti-tech, psycho thing to be a form of Religion, and a good case could be made... )

Your "judgement" is justification for invasion? What if I meet you at 3 in the morning in a street with no-one around, and my judgement suggests that I must take from you what I need. I'm no ninja, but I used to box when I was younger, so I'd blitzkrieg you in under a minute and take what I need. What then? All's fair in love and war?

Well, God save the queens ass then.

NorthernGent -> RE: More bad news from Iraq (10/26/2007 11:12:12 AM)

The queen's too busy training her dogs to attack the poor to worry about much else.

God - doesn't exist, but many people want him to exist.

The Queen - does exist, but most people would rather she didn't.

They're not natural allies.

What other than your judgement would you use to decide what to do in life?  You judge the facts you are given with the value system you have.  I'm not sure what your point is.  Are you the type to take on a lone woman out taking a pleasure stroll? [:D]  Of course, that's assuming I'm the type to be out at 3 am in the first place. [8D]

Each side makes decisions, some of which are based on a perceived reaction.  I often don't speed because I don't wish to pay the fine of a ticket.  Perhaps Iran could avoid war by not being so violent and aggressive.  *shrug*  Perhaps I can avoid getting mugged by you either by carrying a concealed weapon or staying home and watching tv instead.  [:)]
