"Our entitlement mentality: An artist's perspective on music piracy" http://digg.com/music/Our_entitlement_mentality_An_artist_s_perspective_on_music_piracy ----- My favorite comment (excerpt) from someone who "gets it": ----- by Ratteler 2 hours ago BURIED AS INACCURATE FUD! First... WE, THE PEOPLE OWN THE MUSIC!!!! We ALLOW the ARTIST/AUTHOR/INVENTOR a Copy PRIVILEGE, FOR A LIMITED TIME as an incentive to create for OUR PUBLIC DOMAIN as per Article I Section 8 Line 7 of the Constitution. If you want to retain control of your creation.... DON'T SELL IT. Then is remains YOURS and ONLY YOURS. As soon as you offer it for money you LOOSE a piece of it in exchange for what I have given you. Since there is NO PHYSICAL OBJECT to trade, ALL you have to offer is your intellectual rights. Which as I pointed out, are only yours in the first place because WE THE PEOPLE have allowed it. If you don't like this system, figure out another way to repay society for offering you convinces like an economy, language, and an infrastructure that allows you idle time to create. That is WHY "YOUR" creation ends up in the public domain. You, the artist, have been provided a service, by every man, woman, and child that has ever been a citizen of this nation in it's 231years. No dollar amount can ever equal that contribution. ----- Yes, that's how it works and how it was designed to work.
