GhitaAmati -> I just bought a fanny pack... (10/25/2007 10:18:08 AM)

Yes you heard right...I, who have been utterly embarrassed by the sight of my father wearing one for years, just purchased a fanny pack. Does this mean I'm getting old? Is it actually true that eventually we become our parents? Are my children now doomed to be embarrased by the mere sight of me in the mall? Why? Why did I commit this utter fashion travesty you ask? Well...I am travelling to an artifact show this upcoming weekend where I will be carrying large amounts of cash, and I happened to walk by the fanny packs and go "wow, that would be so much safer than having it in my purse where someone could snatch it, and it would hold my keys and my phone and leave my hands and pockets free." so I picked it up and purchased it. Only then did I realize my father is going to go nuts when he finds out.....

Sooo....at what point in time did you realize you have become the embarrasment you always thought your parents were??

~edited because all of those spelling errors that we have been discussing on another thread were becoming more and more apparent...(Not that I fixed them all mind you, but what can I say. Remember: Engineer is another word for bad speller.)

chellekitty -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/25/2007 10:31:08 AM)

hahahahahahahaha

i've been shouting at children...heck at teenagers older than me, running amock "where are you're parents?" since i was 13 or 14...i've been old for a while....

lilsubl -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/25/2007 11:01:53 AM)

i always felt that it was my job as a parent to embarrass my offspring, and i delighted in reminding her of that often...if one isn't embarrassing to them, how will they every do their job of rebelling against one?  as for becoming my parents?  YIKES!!! that thought will send me to the nearest shrink in a hot second...

as far as the fanny pack goes, i have one i carry on the truck for when i'm wearing something with no pockets, cause a truck driver with a purse is just wrong on so many levels.....

hehe fanny hehe ok enough immature snickering. Most people think Im a kid after I shave, I get carded just trying to buy a R rated movie. Well just last a casher refused to sell me ammo cause he thought I was 13 and had a forged ID only when the Cops arived and ran my ID was I allowed to purchase the bullets.

GhitaAmati -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/25/2007 11:52:01 AM)

lol...you and me both...I got carded for white out the other day because the clerk thought I was 16.....

lighthearted -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/25/2007 12:03:53 PM)

omg...that's soooo funny...it reminds me of how I won't let my UMs (both girls) wear tights without a long top, ie a tunic top...this from the girl who hated her mother for not letting her wear a swimsuit that didn't have a skirt on the bottom...yes, ladies and gentleman, it had to have a skirt long enough to cover my crotch...

I have outlived my dad by 2 years. He worked himself to an early grave. Seeing how he lived and died- I decided to be easy on myself. With any luck the genes on moms side will be prevalant as her side has longevity.

I did catch myself being like my dad, when the other day I put on easy listening music.

In the past few months- I am noticing every penny I spend. I should be ok- like this should be the time of my life. When the system gets stingy- the trickle down of everyone getting stingy.

I know everyone has money concerns. And certainly things are not as bad as they once were. When I am in the grocery store- I do a double take on the prices. I like to eat- but my good- try and get out of the store with out spending $50.

I own a fanny pack, wouldn't be caught alive or dead, in public, wearing it though.  [:D]  Its one of those items I take out look at and think, maybe I'll find a use for it someday.

The day I walked outside and broke up a kissing session between my daughter and her then boyfriend.  Once she and I were behind closed doors, it wasn't pretty.

A fanny pack? Egads. i don't remember the last time i saw someone wearing one of those who wasn't developmentally disabled.

i think i became my parents (yes, both of them, i'm just that nuts) right around the time i bought a house... then all the things they ever did started to make sense. No breeding here, tho.

nyrisa -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/26/2007 8:33:12 PM)

I think I became my mother, when I started washing and reusing disposable plastic cups. *L* But hey, it saves money, and it is better for the environment, right? I have not started washing and reusing aluminum foil yet, though.

As for the fanny packs, I admit to using them sometimes. But I started out using them when I worked as a nurse, and it was so convenient to carry stuff in, rather than trying to keep track of scissors and hemostats and ink pens in the pockets of my scrubs. Now I find they work great for vacation, the camera fits nicely there, and my cash and passport are more secure.

I have a hip pack, I used it when we went to the zoo last year an I will use it again when I chaperone a field-trip this week; no guilt or turning into my mother, she doesn't use one, lol.  I want to have my hands free to get the little monsters if they get out of hand, and since it's gonna be around my waist, I can keep the neccesities close at hand - camera, hand santatizer, sunglasses, cell phone.

I am turning into my mother in other ways, it's little things she does - makes her bed, has things a certain way; none of that is a bad thing.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/27/2007 6:37:04 AM)

they still make fanny packs - thought those went out of fashion style like the leg warmers (i still have a pair from high school).

haven't done anything that would embarrass my UMs(though they would say differently) however now that my oldest is in high school, i'm suddenly turning into my mother! *yikes* with all the wonderful advice she told me when i was my oldest's age, i'm repeating it with her.  *yikes*

lilsubl -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/27/2007 10:21:11 AM)

the first time that i noticed i was turning into my mom:

a friend gave my daughter an amethist & diamond ring when she was about 6 weeks old...i wore it & told her it was hers & that she could have it when she turned 13...so she turned 13 & asked for the ring & i told her that i wasn't going to give it to her because she would lose it...she got upset & i got upset & i left her room...i sat down on the couch & came to my senses, went & got the ring & got her to let me back into her room where i apologized for "channelling Grandma", gave her the ring & told her that it was hers to do with as she wished   [:D]

Good for you! This was a good example for your daughter, of doing the right thing, and apologizing where apology is due, and giving her room to demonstrate her maturity and also take the consequences of ownership. I think you will be a great mom for your teen.

SuspendedInGaffa -> RE: I just bought a fanny pack... (10/27/2007 5:04:22 PM)

Bloody Hell! You can buy 'em over there? In packs???

(*books flight*)

Put lots of coins into the fanny pack. Good for meters, good for swinging it like a weapon. You are only as old as you feel, so act like a immature youngin'

Fox and I got carded at Spencers when we were browsing in the sex section.  Fox is 20, I am 30.  The guy looked at my licence as if I sprouted another head when he saw how old I was. and he WINKED at me.

I am not my mother, thank goodness. I have turned into my grandmother, though.  I will buy things I may need at some point just becasue they are on sale.  I am willing to spend the extra price of a second item to get the $.40 off for a coupon...
I am my grandmother.
