I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has found a practical source of straight rattan cane. I have found it, but really don't want to buy a bundle of 400 6' pieces shipped by truck! That's a lotta caning! Anyone have any good sources for a small amount of good straight stuff?

My suggestion is to find the Society for Creative Anachronism branch near you (http://www.sca.org/). They're a medieval recreation group and they use rattan to make their fighting weapons. From time to time a bunch of folks will go in and buy that expensive shipment of rattan together.  And the SCA has "wars" also, which are huge outdoor events that typically draw lots of merchants and will almost always have some people selling nice long straight rattan.
