Remake the world in my idea of perfection? No thanks, and no need. We live in a sea of diversity, and we now have some wonderful tools that allow you to find, contact, and build relationships with people who share your idea of "eros" no matter how exotic it may be. To me, this is pretty damn wonderful.

Sure, the world is filled with nasty crap. Most of the nasties are one form of religion or another. Each saying that we all have to change the world to suit their idea of perfection. So, hang the gays, burn the witches, enforce racial purity... only men can be dominant... (here's your burka, or bunny fur bikini) sex is only for procreation, follow the comet, follow the volcano God Xenu, follow Christ when he says stone anyone with a desire different than that of his televised spokespeople... take your pick of insane, unsupportable ideas. We got millions of 'em!

So really, the problem seems to be the desire to change the world to one idea or another.

David Gerrold, the science fiction writer, once said that the problem with Christianity and Comunisim is the capital "C." When people put that capital "C" in front of those words, suddenly they are demanding your compliance, instead of merely asking for it. You could say the same about a lot of other words too. Once again, we are talking about "the one true way" syndrome. A social illness that keeps coming back, like a plauge, spread by rats.

Amen Polarber! and Can I get a witness!

Ideas are great.. and can lead people to a path of enlightenment.. Beliefs tend to lead people to a path of oppression, war, and intolerance.

I have ideas....

Sorry, I know this is an off-topic quibble, but lines like that drive me nuts.  Christ actually said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Er...I think he was being facetious...

Yeah he is good at that... *smiles*

So often people of any religious sect do not follow thier own tenets.. ( which cheeses me off) because they do not bother to read or learn them for themselves..

Such is the way of the mislead sheep. (all around the world)

KiandPhoenix -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/27/2007 4:42:07 PM)

I am a male dom. I was raised in a normal household (single mother) by a woman with a very strong personality. She had eight siblings, five of them girls, all very strong willed. I can't see ANY of them as submissive. I was raised in almost the opposite way I live. I was taught how to treat a lady. I treat Phoenix like she is a lady, and do things like open the door for her.

Most of the women I have come into contact with are fairly intelligent. Most of the men seam to tie for the years biggest idiot award. So I think everyone has their place, and gender has nothing to do with the role we are suited for.

CuriousLord -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/27/2007 5:52:34 PM)

Naw, whatever works for people.  There are many, many men who shouldn't have control, or even true influence, over another human being.  Ditto for women.

bipolarber -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/27/2007 6:33:45 PM)

Gwn is correct, I'm good at being that way. Also, you guys are correct. I didn't structure that sentence correctly. I guess how it should have read was "Christs' televised spokespeople say to stone people who have different desires than them." You are quite right to call me on that. Christ was a pretty cool guy. He understood outsiders, and criminals, and gave them a second shot... and a third... and... well, as many as it took. No, it was the Falwells and his ilk who used Christianity to demonize GLBT folk. Remember when he tried to blame us for 9/11? That was just the most egregious example.

Sincerely, if I screw up my sources like that, I WANT you guys to call me on it.

SixFootMaster -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/27/2007 11:55:03 PM)

S'not generally a problem, however people use Falwell and his ilk to demonize Christianity as a whole too - and it gets so damned tiring to be tarred with that same brush.

Sexist? Possible, I suppose.

Why? Because women are in general more naturally manipulative than men? Take every bad thing you know about GWB, and create a female version, and tell me which would you rather, through your understanding of men and women.

And yes, it has been my experience that when women in power or authority work with other women in power and authority, personality clashes become more significant and adverse, than when the same happens with men. If a woman is in power and authority, I think it would be best to have men working under her, and to have that layer between interaction with other women in power and authority. *shrugs*

Actually, hermione raises an interesting question, but I'll save that for another post to keep the two issues separate.

haha SFM this time it really wasn't meant to be snarky as much as a joke, you raise a good point albeit a stereotype.

Yeah I'm not even going into the political thing, I fear what will happen with this paticular woman as president, I'm not impressed at all by her handling of the whole Bill/cigar mess and worry that she will, by example, set women and respect back a few notches and agree that having a female leader won't do much to help our already precarious international image.  But time shall tell.

I agree that women can be horrible to and assume competitiveness with women, however, men and women interacting have their own set of problems in power situations as well.  I've personally stopped wearing skirts of any type to work because I find it's difficult to keep their minds on the situation at hand rather than my legs or fantasies of what I would be like in bed.  You see...people respond to people inappropriately in power sitatuations at times, because we're human.

SixFootMaster -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/28/2007 4:38:29 AM)

Wouldn't that give you the power to manipulate the situation to your advantage?

cloudboy -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/28/2007 5:06:15 AM)

I don't believe excellence, leadership and competence are gender based.

The divine right of kings or queens is hooey.

A casual glance at many Dom/Domme profiles or posts convinces me that I would not want them in charge of anything.

My feelings and outlook of submission tend to extend to one person and are far from global.

A submissive in one area can be a leader in another.

Many subs today are a DOM tomorrow and visa-versa.

Its all very hard to figure out without any universal truth to count on.

I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have.  So the short answer is no, it wouldn't.

No. I was just downsized as part of a corporate "restructuring". My new boss is a man. My old boss, who was terrific, actually liked working with women, he hired women on his sales team. The new boss, came in with his old boys network and systematically terminated most of the women.

I thought I was safe since I am the top producing salesperson at the company. On Thursday, I was told they needed someone with more "experience". This is bullshit since I have 20 years experience, as did the other women. We also had to put up with sexist crap.

So, do not assume that women can be manipulative simply because they can use their attributes; I have found in the corporate world that women in power generally support each other, as we have to fight to keep our place, even in these supposedly enlightened times.

It is still a man's world in many ways, including business, so please spare me any more sexist comments until you walk in my high heels.

chia, while youre in her anus, can ya check and see if its broke?

laurell3 -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/28/2007 7:00:41 AM)

I'm sorry that happened.  If a new male came in and fired a large number of women at the same time, I would suggest seeing an attorney about it.  Proving the motive is sexism is difficult, but patterns can be indicative.

I've been in somewhat similar position, however, I left and took a large chunk of the business with me before the situation came to a head, so I guess I won that battle.  It does sound like you have the skills based on your own reports to find a better situation for you.  If there's not a nocompete clause, can you go out and work for a competitor with the same customer base you had before?  I hope so, that would be karma at it's finest.

Not to stick up for SFM, he can do that on his own, but I do think it is true that women can use men's weakness and inappropriate attention to sex against them in the business world.  However, the chick that got where she is by fucking the boss will never be considered as much more than that by the majority of the competent coworkers, male and female alike.  I am good at what I do and I didn't have to use sex to get there.

I agree that some women use men's weaknesses to get ahead, but it does not last long. I have seen far, far more evidence of men being intimidated by women's brains and skills and talent in the business world and manipulating situations to keep women from rising past a certain level. Check many annual reports and you will see far less women executives than men.

Trust me I don't have to read any reports....the "girl germs" and "I can't lose to a girl" line of thought is very alive and well in my line of work as well as the "barefoot and pregnant" type of comments.  I couldn't get out of bed in the morning if I gave it much thought,  I occasionally just hope there really is an afterlife and these men are born again as women with horrible, painful menstural cycles, [8D] and then I move on and do what I do regardless.

I know, I hate bluenoses who pull that. I wish people could just worry about enforcing control on themselves-rather than everyone else.

"Can't lose to a girl" I love that!  I agree, I have to move on, but first I am going to consult an attorney and see if I have a case.

laurell3 -> RE: Mars vs Venus (10/28/2007 7:13:15 AM)

You probably can't prove it (that's not to say you shouldn't talk to one and even send them a demand), but I reccomend doing what I did, take their business....that hurts soooooo much more than a lawsuit.
