Okay. Help. I have a weird situation going on in my house.

I had a basket of clean laundry sitting on my lazyboy chair for quite awhile and I decided it was time to put the stuff away. When I lifted the laundry basket up I found about 2 measuring cups worth of dry cat food!! There is no way BarneyCat or Mickey the Wonderdog did it, not enough room in the chair cuz the basket was really wedged in.

So I cleaned up that weirdness, taking care to look for any  mousie poop (there was none, just the dry cat food). I took the laundry basket to my bedroom (stage two of putting laundry away, it sits for about a week lol) and today decided to fold it all.

Um. Um. Dry dog food this time. About 3 cups worth. All layered between the clothes n sheets. But no mousie poop!! No half eaten or nibbled kibble!! All the bits were uneaten. It all looks like some kinda freaky squirrel stash.

Anyone have an idea of what has moved into my house? There is absolutely no sign except for the dry cat and dog food hiding...I'm a wee bit creeped out. I set mousie traps and bait but nothing so far.

This sounds an awful lot like an UM's prank. Barring H sapiens I'm guessing evil spirits intent on punishing you for your lack of laundry putting away timeliness.

This is a UM-free zone lol. Maybe it IS a higher power telling me to put my laundry away the same month I wash it?

It really is freaky weird though. I just want to know what sort of critter has decided to move in with me cuz it sure isn't paying rent!

I've got it. Your dog and cat think you are moving, which is why you have not put the clothes away. They are helping you pack by putting their food in with your clothes.

LOL I thought it was the cat at first. I just went through the other two baskets in the living room (jeez yeah I really do procrastinate on some things) but no kibble. Just in the one.

As far as I know mice don't build up a supply of food, or at least I've never seen that happen. I usually get a few meeces every winter so I'm used to them, but this? This is weird.

I thought i was bad at procrastination....i do the laundry and put it on the bed. It is awaiting a new home as i need to clean up (get rid of a ton of stuff, which isn't mine (death). Sighs....

Besides that i had to leave (asthma) the house due to the fires/smoke here. I didn't have to evac but the smell really bothered my lungs..
The air quality here still  isn't good and they say it will take 2 weeks or more for it to clean up...

good luck in finding out what caused the kibble in your clothes. I hope you have no animals there except the ones you have bought.

I also have the never put up the laundry until a week or more later problem, so I know your pain. I can only suggest someone else's UMs got to you.  Maybe gremlins?  Gnomes?  Trolls?

I highly doubt that it would be a cat.
My "Bubba" gets food in his mouth and it's gone!
He doesn't "save" it at all! lol
Plus, cats aren't really "hoarders."

there are different types of mice, some do stash  food without eating it especially if there is an abundance, if your cats never go hungry they wont hunt, Im not saying starve them, but if they arent hungry they become like heathcliff and garfield----you wont catch mice in a trap if they arent hungry either, I would look around and see if there are other stashs in dressers or in and under your furniture

The kitty is 20 and is more likely to stare at a mouse now than to chase one hehehe. She doesn't eat much so she always has a bowl of dry, or she did.. I pulled that. Otherwise she lives on rotisserie chicken.

I think it's a chipmunk.

A Chipmunk would be a good guess.
They're hoarders.
I was trying to imagine my cat Bubba "hoarding" but he's such a pig he'd eat everything right on the spot! lol

I've never seen a rat around here but my neighbors built a big horse barn with a dozen horses.. hadn't really thought of that til now. I'd rather have a chipmunk than a rat!

Yes mya I do have a fireplace with a roaring fire going right now  and I didn't see any footprints in the ashes lol. Usually the only thing to come from the fireplace are wasps.

To get rid of a squirrel Apply some peanut butter to a firm piece of card board place it outside and open the door a bit. keep the area quiet and the squirrel will go for the peanut butter. When he is outside shut him out. I know this sounds crazy but this has actually worked twice for me . once in my condo anda second time at a friends house,

Yea, I never saw the one that lived in the trailer I moved into, until the night I was crawling under the trailer to defrost the water pipes with my handy dandy hair dryer and put my hand on something that stuck to my glove; rat skeleton. It wasn’t pretty.

I apologize, got hungry and my eyes were bigger than my stomach,
so I saved some for later. I did leave a dollar on the counter, you do
remember that dollar you found on the counter don't you.

p.s. I like it better when you opt to leave the towel off after bathing
instead of wrapping it around you. Just wanted you to know.
