Upstate NY TNG Groups?

Upstate NY TNG Groups? - 10/28/2007 3:44:40 PM

Status: offline 		We have a friend who lives in upstate NY and is feeling very alone in not having much of a kink community presence in the area. At least, not one that she knows of. Unfortunately, she doesn't have a reliable internet connection, so I promised her I would do some research and help point her in the right direction.

Is anyone aware of any TNG (18-35) organizations serving the Finger Lakes region of NY- roughly encompassing Syracuse or Ithaca? With several large colleges there, I would think there might be at least one, but my search tonight didn't result in anything useful for her. Thanks in advance.

They have events in both Utica and Syracuse and I believe there is a TNG group within the group.

Status: offline 		Yes, but they are in NYC, not upstate. The area in question is about 4-5 hours from NYC.

Status: offline 		I have not personally attended the Rochester Kink Society (RKS) but have met several of their members at events throughout the region and they were seriously good folks.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the tips, everyone, I'll send these along to her. I remember how annoying it was living in areas with no kink community, and I feel a bit spoiled now that I'm in a city with several good options while she goes without.

Status: offline 		Dont pass them along its a waste of time going to them. Master and I live within driving distance of the groups on the upstate/western NY areas. All it is is a bunch of narrowminded cluster fuck of people that think their chit dont stink. We  went several times and each time were looked down on , and treated as if we were not wanted nor were we welcomed at all.

Status: offline 		I'm sorry to hear that. We've had positive experiences with our own communities and I hadn't even considered that other groups wouldn't be as open or friendly. It's too late now as I mailed my friend, but I'll advise her about your experience.

Status: offline 		I've been to the UKS and have never been looked down upon.  Each person is different I suppose.  wisteriaV, sorry you didn't get a warm reception, I don't know your situation but everyone deserves to feel respected (unless they are complete jerks).  Its difficult in upstate, we are so widely disbursed.

Status: offline 		Good to hear. I'm sure she'll give them a chance, she's not one to pre-judge. I may just wind up cutting and pasting everyone's comments here to her in a few days, or just pointing her here to look herself.

Status: offline 		I am a member of UKS and find the group to be welcoming and very open minded. I live much closer to the Albany community and choose to travel to UKS because of how accepting they are. Every group has it's politics, but this is a special group of people.
 
wisteriaV, I think you likely did not give them a chance to get to know you.

Status: offline 		Actually, there is a TNG groub based out of Albany - its a small group but those who are in the group are very committed and we have a lot of fun.  Our Yahoo group is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/albanykinktng/, and this is where all of our event and munch notifications come out of.  We do have members from the Ithaca / Syracuse area who come in for events and she may find it useful also.  HTH.

Status: offline 		as the former owner of the Central NY TNG group, i can say that one in specific no longer exists.
however, there is one in Ithaca (in yahoo groups) and RKS and UKS both have TNG special interest groups, more or less.
