Popeye.....

No offense brother......but I think you need to take all that free time-- you've obviously earned--- and go back to school with it. Honestly.....I think you'd come out a whole new man ....with a whole new perspective. Challenge yourself....I think you're up for it [;)]

As for the Carlin three-minute spot.....  Clearly on the money.

Corporations do not want people poor, they want people to be dumb, stupid and acquiescent so when they exploit and enslave one group of people for their resources, the group they market their products to think the poor and the exploited are getting a good deal.

Just look at the British East India Company, in its time it was ENRON with a private army.It exploited people and still got rich by having a market half a world away. Nothing much has changed today. Corporations have psychopathic behaviour, the plan, exploit and execute. Profits count, people don't so they don't care a fuck who which people win or lose as long as they keep making bigger and bigger profits.

While we're on the subject of corporations and their behaviour, I saw a fascinating film wherein the modern megacorp was metaphorically analyzed as if it were a person in a psychiatrist's office, and questions like "what kind of person is it?" were asked.  An interesting, and disturbing, take on the subject, but I found it thought-provoking.  The website for the film is here, and I'm sure it's still available for rent on DVD.

Well I workrd for a large telecomms "corporation" at a "lowish" technical level.
I made a reasonable living and I've got a decent pension so it cant be all bad can it ?
The firm has since virtually collapsed and been taken over.
I know for a fact that many lament that.I live quite close to the car park which used to be chokka block and now stands forlorn and virtually empty.

Surely its the financial institutions that are the real problem NO?

Wasn't BT's problem that it was privatized for short term financial and political gain? Though to be fair, the tories did say they were going to introduce competition so I guess the smart people bought shares for short term gain and the stupid money thought it was a long term investment. The tories privatized companies to fill their own pockets and buy votes, that should have told everyone something about the future of BT.

EDIT Thinking about politicians and their snouts in the trough just makes me want to vomit. I really don't know why many people think they do a good job when every psychological profiling suggests politicians have well above average psychopathic tendencies.

I have a brother screwed out of a pension by 2 month. 2 MONTHS!  On the flip side I encourged mom to get hers in. The soonest possible day she could retire, she did. She had it down to the HOUR! lol.  Pensions are a thing of yesder-century.
