This is a very short, to the point video clip from George Carlin, and no one can say what I have been thinking about this country better than he can....3 minutes, and everyone of them worth spending.

I love George Carlin, but hey, to each their own. I do not like Rocky Road ice cream most of the time, but that does not mean it has no value...

Pick your flavor, and enjoy... perhaps Bill Crosby is more to your liking, or Howie Mandel.

Those people who bought into the American dream really are suckers. I think the term American dream was made up by Englishmen selling their fellow Englishmen a pig in a poke, snake oil salesmen selling the colonies back in the sixteenth century. It was selling a fantasy then and has been ever since.

You must mean being in debt. One of the neighbors bought a new car- they wonder why they cant buy the place they are in.  Duh. 2 car payments - or a house payment.

Everyone I know is in debt. This when bankrupsty reform is now law. Despite the new law- record numbers are filing for bankruptsy. Maybe I will tell the gas company; since my paycheck has gone down- I will be reducing my amount owed by 20%;  take it or leave it.
[think it wont work? well if the whole town called in- maybe it would]

George's comments are spot on. This country Used to produce the brightest minds and finest artists in the world. As a result of our short lived 'cultural revolution' where the conservatives, military and big business were outed, the educational system was deliberately destroyed. Enter the 'Whole Language" system. Within 5 years, educators knew it was a dismal failuire.....there have been other 'modifications to this non sense, but the problem persists. Americans are no longer taught to read effectively, write with clarity or even comprehend what they are reading. University level education standards have been lowered drastically and the result is harsh.
Parents no longer have the ability to teach their children how to read beause they were not taught. The educational system continues to blow smoke up eveyones ass with their 'new and revolutionary' reforms....big business loves it because the average American is struggling to put food on the table, is force fed desires for the latest techno toys and doesn't have time or the inclination to take back what is theirs.

Politicians and businessmen being scared of creative people is not purely an American problem. Capitalism hates creativity where cultural renewal is the motivating factor and not profit, it creates too much uncertainty. Far better to pulp people's brains, have them mindlessly consume and steer them away from critical thought.

I am not really sure what a bank DOES. At one time they held gold bars- but they dont really do that. Then the so-called central bank...well if fort knox is really the peoples national treasure, then why is it so secretive? Why does the economy hinge on what Greenspan says? Again- the banks have what to do with it? Why is a for profit entity entangled in a national sovereignty issue?

The 60s produced some of the greatest works of music and art. So where is it now?  Lets ask clear channel.  A good time to mention media consolidation is going to get more consolidated. Some complained the public comment period is only a 5 day notice!

Mr T wondered about pulling licenses. Being that- you would only be viewed as crazy- the only thing that CAN be understood is if folks en mass stopped financially supporting the status quo.  I know the airwaves air owned by we the people, but public spaces arent that public any longer. Vote with your feet. You can even call the cable and ask them to block fox, cnn or what have you and ask for a credit. When they say it cant be done. Tell them you will cancel it all then- as it is noise in YOUR HOME!

When one gets a credit card- they arent doing you any favor. The only good point is you dont have to run to family if finances get tight. If you are sinking- you get bail out for a while- but then it becomes unsustainable. 23% interest is in fact- unsustainable.

Banks have big buildings. Fancy ones- and one on every corner. Why? Biblically neither a lender or borrower be.

Financially- lets appluad the fed- as banruptsy is not an option. thankfully it is harder to bankrupt now. So when Social Security crashes the central bank wont go bankrupt. Or will it?
Either way George W Bush, being the good man that he is- has looked after our interests. He certaninly is a GOOD American!

Meat, I for one love to know what is happening elsewhere from the US.  1. We wont get it in the main media. 2. The ickyness tried in ABCland will be attempted elsewhere.

Divide and conquer.

Colleges and Universities have become "degree factories."
When "anyone" can get a "degree" what are they really worth?
And as soon a good-paying jobs are created they are shipped overseas.
I can't tell you how many waiters and waitresses I've met with "degrees."
As Mark Twain said; "we can't all make a living by taking in each other's wash."
I thought colleges and universities were supposed to be "Non-Profits." Seems they're looking at the bottom line like a "for profit" company these days.
The economy will function just fine on having 15-20% of the populace "degreed".
When it gets up to 60% it's rediculous.
Just look at the titles of some of those "degrees".
"Landscape Architect", "Golf Course Manager", "Food and Beverage Manager", "Solid Waste Manager," "Personal Trainer."
Now they have Titles?
"Hey, drop that broom! You're not qualified to sweep and swab that floor without a "degree" and a Title!"
"Now get out of here and go to college for a four year "degree" in "Janitorial Sciences!"
You know, as rediculous as it sounds I bet some college or university has a "degree" in "Janitorial Sciences."
I was once told by a councilor that they "even have degrees for learning "challenged" people with below average i.q.s.
Again, what good are they if anyone can get one?
Mr. O'Donnel the janitor at my elementary school must be rolling in his grave! "I coulda been a contender!"

I have a BA degree. Guess which job had longevity?   A gas station-7 years. While I did not need a degree for that- it DID come in handy for the problems I went thru. Navigating the "system"= the "system" is never-ever wrong- ever.

My late dad said school can not be taken away from you. He was right.

Recently I attemped to return to school. I took 2 online computer courses, 6 credit hours. I thought-it will be a breaze- I like and know this subject.  WRONG. I flunked.  Not that I celebrate ignorance- but I find self-taught does wonders.

IF things got tough- amazing what a farmer knows- thats where ild want to be.

PaHunk, I agree, but as for someone "taking" some of these degrees from you, who'd want some of them in the first place?
Look at the hourdes of waiters with sociology and psychology "degrees" and the other "soft" sciences.
When I was growing up we were taught that going to a college or university was designed to develop a superior intellect.
What happened to that concept?
Listen to Jay Leno interviewing college students and it looks like that concept has been thrown out the window.
They don't even know Geography or History!
If you don't even know the basics like Geography or History how are you supposed to move on to more advanced subjects?
Yup, that'll be the next big thing comming down the pike, "The University of (fill in the blank) now has a Doctoral Program in Janitorial Science."
"Nice chatting Doctor now get busy mopping that floor."
Most jobs just don't "require" any type of "degree".
I don't understand why these colleges and universities think that it's neccessary to "grow" by adding un-neccessary "degree" programs.
This is rampant in our Federal government.
They have "Job Titles" and high salaries for what are, in essence, secretarial jobs!
And layer upon layer of  un-neccessary "management."
Everyone's a "manager" these days!
Just look at that "FEMA" thing, they probably have 100 desk jockeys with all kinds of "degrees" for every (one) person who actually physically does something.
"How many Fema managers do you have for this state?"
"Forty five hundred."
"How many truck drivers?"
"Ah, ....60?"
"Can any of the managers drive a big rig?"
"Ahhhh, ...probably not."

Carlin is just bitter because he spent all his money on cocaine instead of technology stock (or even real estate), back when he was still the funniest man I've ever seen.  It stikes me funny when he talks about a big club we can't join, and the video shows clips of self-made people.

If your (generic 'your') idea of the American Dream is a birthright to a high-pay low-skill job, with full union bennies and Arbor Day as a paid holiday, then you're asleep.  If you think it means the safety net should be a lifetime hammock for the lazy, you're stoned.

If you think it is about opportunity, and a right to pursue your bliss, win or lose, then you probably already know that Carlin is just another once-brilliant burnout, on the "Bad Investments" county fair tour bus.

I think that you have not been around the world very much and are very naive.

You do not seem to know people that worked all their lives for the that dream, were downsized out of a job, or had it shipped overseas

Or the person kicked out of their health insurance plan because they or a family member got so sick that they were too much of a liability... so they had to lose everything they owned so they could get state medical

Or someone like my father who was a real estate broker with his own office, and had no medical insurance because the market was bad, so he died because he could not afford medical care...

Or the mother that works fulltime and has to pay a sitter, and then figures out that she is paying to work when all the math adds up.

Or the retiree who had his pension taken by the Ken Lays of this world...

I could go on and on and on.

I see the sabbatical hasn't done much for your style of debate.  You can't handle the views I express, so you launch a nasty personal attack against me, then bring up dead daddy and get ready to play victim.  Been there, done that, used the t-shirt to wax my car.

Maybe Carlin was right about the crap coming out of our schools...
