I use quick release connecters on my chains & make sure that I leave some slack in the chains so they can reach them easily.

Mm. Not I.

It's kind of like being prepared for every single emergency under the sun. My mother used to carry an unbelievably huge bag of anything anyone could possibly need in an emergency. Each time she found she was unprepared, she added to the bag. She lugged it around everywhere for years and still she found she couldn't take care of every single thing that might crop up. Finally she stopped carrying it. She couldn't lift it.

Dont let paranora rule your thoughts. If you can get untied that easy then what is the use of bondage. But always have a pair of cutters within reach.

He dips His lid:

One can be always be a boy scout  but also know that when shit happens- it happens.

Commonsense precautions yes, but paranoia just isn't becoming for Dom/mes.   A huge factor of the bondage is the helplessness and giving control to the Dom/me for many- for these people having quick self-outs would reduce the pleasure.  I wouldn't expect a sub to 'give over' complete trust in my abilities unless I had proven them.

suddenly become incapacitated? like you trip over the lamp cord and sprain your ankle? or like you have a heart attack? or like aliens shoot your house with a laser beam and only the Dominant is hit and they are paralized and the submissive is left scared to death wonder what to do, oh what to do?

sorry...but in senario 1...you are not so incapacitated that you can not untie or unhook your submissive....in senario 2 there are warning signs to the actual heart attack and most people don't just all of a sudden one day have a heart attack, they are unhealthy for a while...if you are concerned about the possibility of a heart attack or stroke or any other health related problem....don't play alone!!! i'm not saying you have to play at public parties, or even in front of other people...but have someone in another room that the submissive can call out to, or they can come running if they hear a loud thump (like a person falling to the floor unexpectedly)..and if you are concerned about senario 3 well, i am not a mental health professional, but perhaps you should not be engaging in BDSM activity if that kind of thing is a concern....

chelle...

This is why some don't like SSC and prefer RACK.

If you play with someone who has a real potential for passing out or having  a heart attack, truly restrictive bondge in private might be a bad idea, instead play in public.

Well, if you're using rope it tends to stretch some once it gets warm from the body. So as long as you're willing to scrape your hands up you will eventually get free.

He doesn't ever have the gag in so tight I can't move it because if he did that my jaw would hurt and I would need it taken out quick, so I could get it down far enough that I could use my teeth on the rope while pretending it was a tough steak

Plus if I'm not tied to furniture, I could eventually hobble into the bathroom and reach the toe nail scissors on the window sill and use them. Maybe not in time for him to be treated for the heart attack, but that's a risk he needs to think about for himself.

We don't use much chain because I get cold easily and shivering uncontrollably is not fun. Leather could be chewed through also, think of dogs and rawhide bones.

Reading this thread, i recalled a book by Stephen King -- i think it was called "Gerald's Game".  Has anyone read it?

Ive read Gerald's Game, and if I remember correctly didn't his wife cause him to die by kicking him in the chest? Ok, so what happend to her after was fucked up, especially the guy with the bones being real in the end but lets face it, thats a story by one of the most acclaimed thriller authors in modern age. A good imagination yes, a plausable possibility yes..something Im going to lay awake at night worrying about, I think not.

I read Gerald's Game years ago but that wasn't what motivated me to ask this question. Things can and do happen and it isn't being paranoid to to be prepared from such. Just my opinion.

We each have to assess our own levels of risk and what we find acceptable for ourselves.

We always make sure i can get loose if necessary.   Being in our 60's we feel this is important. The bondage is as much mental as physical.

When I'm bound I prefer the no way out feeling.  Sometimes we have a guest voyeuring or participating with us and on other occasions we are just two.  Those circumstances puts the responsibility on the dom/top to not make any dangerous maneuvers  like climbing on top on a pile of furniture  in order to get the extra camera angle. If the pile crashes... well shit does sometimes happens. I should be able to get out in the morning, if I'm lucky.  That's why I prefer SSC over RACK.
