Bank of America - Corporate Immigration Policy - 10/30/2007 10:53:58 AM

By now most know and appreciate that the driving force behind any push for immigration amnesty or "open borders" are the Corporations. Our elected Representatives from the lowest tenured Congressman to the President, bought and paid for by PAC's funded by corporations, do everything they can to push for a continuing pool of low income workers. There is no party distinction. Only the "corporate Master" is being served.

Here is one of the most obvious examples of corporate policy facilitating the influx of cheap labor. A call to Bank of America Customer Service Department.

Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.

The Bank: Why?

Customer: You're giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking  my business elsewhere.

The Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't want to see you do that, but we can't stop you. I'll help you close the account. What is your account number?

Customer: (gives account number)

The Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?

Customer: No?

The Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of who you are.

Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don't have social security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?

The Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.

Customer: Why not?

The Bank: Because you would have pressed '2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.

I doubt this issue can be won.  Not with the corporate masters.  This place is becoming uncrecognizable.  If my father came back from the grave- he would be astounded.

Of course you've seen the video about how they want to avoid hiring US workers.

It is business as usual.

I don't care if we let them in or wall up the borders.  As long as we act with some shred of integrity.  Allowing corporations to profit from them, to use them to force down wages, etc and then jail the illegals for their "crimes" is immoral.

Either punish the corporations employing and profiting from them or find a way for everyone, illegals, corporations, and society to profit openly and honestly.

What we are doing now clearly doesnt' work.

The trick is convincing enough people that waiting around for the next election isn't going to change anything.

Why is it wrong for employers to seek an expanded and vibrant workforce?

Immigration is the thing that made the US great, and its also our greatest hope to remain a productive nation once the boomers become unproductive.

What a joke too, getting your information from LOU DOBBS.

We do not have a problem with IMMIGRANTS--in fact, America lets in more LEGAL immigrants than any FIVE other nations! Even with that, we have a complicated entry system because we do NOT want just anyone getting into America. You might say we have standards...No known criminals, and no known disease-carriers. The backlog comes in that some will try to fake their way in, so we have to run a background-check on them...and due to pressures resulting from that very backlog, sometimes some are let in that shouldn't.
ILLEGALS, however, are another matter altogether, they feel too "privileged" to go through the same qualification process, so they just break in, and then seek the same rights/privileges/benefits as people who came in the CORRECT way. This makes them equivalent to shoplifters or line-jumpers at your favorite store/nightclub/amusement-park...and if they GET those benefits, it makes the ones who play by the rules look like grand-scale CHUMPS!
Oh, and illegals, because they didn't have any real effort to get in, feel they have no reason to assimilate, they treat our culture the same way they treat our laws, and sometimes have the GALL to march in our streets and demand MORE...their loyalties still lie with their old countries, and so does most the money they earn get sent back there...So the countries that send illegals to us have an incentive NOT to stop them! After all, the only ones that lose out are Americans and LEGAL immigrants, right?

Thank you Merc.

This is the side of the coin, that no one sees or talks about.

Corporate America has literally been writing and managing our immigration policy, legal and illegal, for almost eight years.

From the lawful(presently) use of cheap labor,to allowing(by design)the illegal laborers,to flood into the US.

IMO,voting republican will guarantee that this pro-business policy will continue,in spite of the anti-legal/illegal immigrant rhetoric, coming of the right.

There will always be a need to seek out talent from abroad. But this shit is getting ridiculous.Corporate America is abusing this law,to the detriment of the American middle class.

The balance is way off,and in favor of corporate interests.Which are,..to make more money.
Even if that means importing nurses from the Philippines ,that work for half the money. It doesn`t matter what that does to the US labor market,or the middle class in general. If corporate America can squeeze a few more dimes out of the system, they will, any way they can.

Tough fines for corporations/companies that hire illegal immigrants is the fastest way to stop the problem. Now can we find a politician that will back it? This is one of those issues that shows both parties are just different heads on the same snake.

Good post.
