DesiredMuse -> RE: Ive come over all feminist?!? (12/6/2007 12:03:27 PM)

It's not a womans "role" to serve men.  I don't submit or consider myself below any man (or woman).  I choose to submit myself to my husband.  I am very strong and never hold back my opinions, I only do so in a respectful way, which I would do with anyone that I had respect for.

It doesn't anger me when I see that men feel that way.  It more makes me sad for them.  How it must be to go through life just expecting it, than being worthy of gaining that status by having a woman choose to give it to them.  To think so little of yourself is a poor existence.

Greetings to everyone *smilez*

Greetings AquaticSub,
I think the chick's name was Valerie Solanas... I think she shot Andy Warhol.

Greetings HalloweenWhite,

Greetings kesi,
"I have no problem reconciling my feminism with submission, Its about choice.
Women having the same choices men have, men having the same choices women have
and generally letting people live their lives in whatever way makes them happy.

I think you girls who are antifeminst are misguided in what it really means more than anything else."

I think you're right... I'm just misguided.  But couldn't you possibly be misguided as well?  How will we ever know if we can't do what we're doing right here, just like this?

Greetings DesiredMuse,

"It's not a womans "role" to serve men."

That's an awfully general statement, though I believe I understand you.  However perhaps it IS some women's role to serve men.  Perhaps it is some men's role to serve women.  Perhaps some people just serve people.  Perhaps not.

"To think so little of yourself is a poor existence. "  *rises and gives this statement a standing ovation*

Wishing everyone to remain well, now and forever,

In that case, you've obviously done a great of research. However, if you ever feel the need to look it up again, may I suggest books dealing with both feminism and religion? The readings for a class I took recently on feminist theologies has helped me gain a much better grasp on why there is still a need for a feminist movement and also just how many different schools of feminism there are. And gotten me over the stereotype of feminists being man-haters.

I think it all depends on how one defines a feminist and what being a feminist means to you.

To me it means that  regardless of gender you should have the right to equal education, jobs if qualified and equal pay if doing the same job, while on the job in the factory  if the equipment breaks down, the supervisors better not single me out of my team  of co-workers because I am a  female and tell me to pick up a broom or mop and clean and let the males  stand around and doing nothing while we are receiving the same  hourly pay, as a parent it means I will raise my children equally meaning the boys will learn to clean house, sew  and cook and the girls will also learn to do yard work and take out trash and how to do some household repairs, I want both sexes to learn how to become independent because life does not guarantee they will always have a partners so I want them to be able to stand on  their own 2 feet , To me being a feminist means I do not have to submit   to every male out there, I can haggle over the price  I am willing to pay for a car, I can negogiate with the banker for the best mortgage rate, I can argue with the male doctor or vet and ask for a second opinion if I think they are wrong,   it means having the freedom to choose if I want to submit to someone and to what extent, it also mean I am not a second class citizen with less rights  just because I was born a female.
