Hi! I need to move in the next few months. I'll need to keep it in the U.S. I haven't visited most of the cities I'm considering for any long period of time, so please vote or tell me in a post why you hate or love any of these cities (or have any other rec for me). Please don't vote against a city solely on the fact that you don't like cold weather (because I've chosen the places I have because of my love of cold). I love a big, clean city, with wilderness, a body of water, and outdoor recreation close by. It also needs to have a high-end shopping / beauty market because of my job. Cheap housing but a thriving job market / economy would be important too. Thanks so much to all who post / vote. (Note: Please don't vote if you haven't ever been to the place before..) [8\|]

Personally coming from upstate NY Buffalo is a dirty place so nothing clean there but u do get the outdoors and water...However Cinncinati Ohio or NYC is my vote .... do you need to change your license for each State if so that may also be a considering factor in your move..

DC/Baltimore area. Lots of water & mountains nearby. Live in the country, small town or city. Lots of museums, theaters & stuff to do. High end shopping? Will places like Yves Laurent & Brooks Brothers work? NYC only 5 hours by car. Not sure how long the express trains take. Couple hours, I think.

move to Southeast Georgia.. the weather's nice and its quiet. and i'm from here so i'm gonna say move here.. i love it here.. its a beautiful place..

Chicago we have public transportation (until they cut routes on Sunday and raise fares) to take you north, south and west of the city, housing is not cheap (depending on which yuppie-fied neighborhood you live) a studio could run you at least $1100 plus deposit, high-end shopping - we have the Mag(nificent) Mile actually the street is called Michigan Ave ...high shops to browse or go to Water Tower Place ...lots of other malls around time - we have a Macy's on State Street, local cultural events and museums, plenty of places to eat and hear live music ...there's always something happening here.

Richmond Virginia has the facilities you mention, handy to the beach, the mountains, and the urban corridor of DC to NYC. They just went though a rebuilding period, are not a expensive as Northern VA, and have a kayakable river through the middle of town, plus history to burn. Great museum, interesting theater community, aggressive original music scene (Gwar to blues to whatever). Good university hospital, all around a pretty attractive place.

Cheap housing? Hmm. Harrisburg -west shore- for the money- you have some culture, shopping and jobs. take a look- you might be surprised.

Jacksonville, Florida. Its like a huge big city built right in the middle of a forest. Its the only town Ive ever been in where you can live in the middle of the woods and have cattle and a nice rural setting, and yet still be within a 15 minute drive of not one but THREE huge malls. I love Jax, its beautiful in some places...not so beautiful in others but even the bad parts arent TOO bad ya know...lots of night life, lots of shopping, within a days drive of tons of attractions and antique shops and theres Daytona Beach for bike week, and amelia island and st simons and sea island for your high end relaxation type days, and saint augustine for a nice day trip...oh its great.

SOme states allow a partial car registration - so as to make way for snow birds or folks who live at 2 places. PA recently began this.

San Francisco Housing is more affordable than New York, it's clean, beautiful, great shopping, excellent food, has the ocean and the bay, Big City feel and yet has several neat little communities (like potrero hill, noe valley, marina, etc...) that makes it feel cozy. And, The City is so small that you'll always be a short cab ride or walking distance from a locals favorite hangout and entertainment. Plus, SF is my favorite kinky place! Need I say more?! Puppy, I had looked at maps and thought at one point that Cleveland was in a perfect spot for me - water, and cold. (am I right about that?) But anyway, all the stats said it was a victim of rust belt / white flight sort of problems, and was dangerous / run down / unclean / and jobs were hard to find. Is that all wrong? Plmk! =) Hime - Ah, San Fran looks glorious. My favorite TV show of all time is Charmed.. so of course I love it. ;) Anyway, if only housing wasn't sooo expensive and they had winter... Is it true the weather is the same year-round? I would miss no freezing temperatures and cold rain for sure!

Although it doesn't snow in San Francisco itself, you're only a short 3hr drive from Lake Tahoe, Reno, and more fantastic winter playgrounds up in the Sierra Mountains. And yes, it has every season - and does rain in the winter. Plus, if you plan on renting you'll be surprised that the cost of living is still very reasonable. ~ xoxo

Go anywhere but Milwaukee, WI. Was born here and looking for far better place to live. Was a great place in the '70s. But, this last Gov. has raised taxes over and over and over... Next year Milwaukee Public Schools tax rate will go up another 16%... Milwaukee, victim of rust belt / white flight sort of problems, and is dangerous / run down / unclean / and jobs are hard to find. I'm looking for a place that has Land, Low or No Income Tax, and a major airport near by.
