Dnomyar -> Points of view (10/31/2007 9:47:16 AM)

I often expres my points of view on here. I do not expect anyone to embrace them. I just throw them out.  Everyone has their own point of view. Even if I dont agree with them I listen to them. My bitch here is if you are going to post on here why crab about the answers you get. Are you posting on here to get answers or to get attention. What is your point of view on this?

for some it's an attention thing, for others they use the forum as a learning tool

I think that people do both.  They may be looking for answers or helping to supply answers, but it also fills a need for attention and validation.  I doubt that anyones personal reasons are as black or white as you are suggesting.

It is perhaps even true that they themselves are unsure of their ultimate motivations.

I agree with this. Ask anyone why they post on hear you will never hear attention and rarely validity in what a person believes and lives but that on some level it is there with anyone who posts on any board.

Why do people debate, get mad, take exception to what others reply in a negative fashion is because we are human beings and do not like to hear from anyone that we may be wrong no matter if it is factual or opinioned based. For most of us this is enjoyable part of a message board is the active communication. It is why threads are repeated over and over because a live discussion with our own thoughts posted is infinitely more interesting then using a search function and just reading. It can or cannot sometimes help us learn new things or look at things in a different light.

At the same time though a person who has to respond to every negative comment and/or thinks they are going to change other people’s views if they stomp their feet loud enough are probably coming from an insecure place. I also think this insecure place host the same people who post a comment and then pretend or do not care what others write about it by not replying to any comments in a thoughtful and respectful way. To me the keeping it real and hey just my opinion I post it but do not care people are just as insecure and use the do not reply or dismiss others as their defense mechanism.

..i just enjoy the debate. i like the concept that ideas compete for belief.....in a way this is one battleground for that competition.

I read (and post) - because it sure beats working!

Well, not really. But it provides a break during the day, I might learn something, and at least I'm going to hear stuff I might not normally hear otherwise.
