Im not sure of your meaning in this question but....

For many years I lived life as a ghost..a mere shadow of life in my soul it seemed. It took hard work and finding my true self to come back to life.

I agree with Elegant. Its very possible to shuffle through years of a living death. But life after such 'death' is both possible and wonderful, too.
