It seems alot of people here tend to think that this lifestyle is becoming more "mainstream" but Id like to differ. I dont really see it as being mainstream. Maybe more people are experimenting with some light bondage, ie handcuffed to the bed or whatnot but I dont think most people would understand the full scope of "BDSM". Power exchange and what it is like for a sub/slave to give himself/herself over completely to a Dom/me. Alot of women would look at it as oppression of a woman (Im speaking from a Dominant straight Male's p.o.v.) and her right's.

Perhaps its that we are on the inside of the circle looking out that it seems BDSM is more commonplace but if you were to take yourself out of that circle, would it not seem that this lifestyle is kept behind closed doors rather than out in the open.

Just my $.02.

I think your post is pretty much a restatement of mine:

I think bdsm and S&M are becoming more and more "mainstream" and "pop-culture" and becoming fairly accepted (as much as any deviant sexuality is).

I think the "lifestyle" is becoming more known as more and more people gain access to the internet and munch groups and conventions continue to flourish so information and connections are far more widely accessible than before.

Let's face it, when you can buy handcuff bracelets at local mall shops, when primetime music videos show latex and bondage, when primetime TV shows make direct references to whipping and kinky sex- I think we can assume that kink and bdsm is definitely mainstream.

However, does this translate to people understanding how a relationship works with a woman allowing a dominant to have authority over what she eats and how she dresses? No.

I believe my post was completely different than yours. I DONT think its mainstream. A little spanking here and there might be "kinky" or playing around but the original question was "Is our LIFESTYLE becoming more mainstream". There is alot more to our lifestyle than ropes and handcuffs.

I do, however agree with the second part of your post to me. Obviously. =)

My Masters do not choose what I eat, nor how I dress. However, we do enjoy our BDSM. Buying handcuffs and doing a little spanking is kinky, nothing more, but at least mainstream people are peeking into the room to see what all is there. I mean, did we all not start somewhere? How many of us went extreme for our first BDSM experience?

But isnt there more to your relationship than spanking and light bondage? Thats all Im trying to say. Obviously Im not conveying that well enough.

and here I was thinking I was just hearing things when she said that...I wonder who on the Soprano writing staff took that bold step to include that line... and how many just didn't hear or understand it...
